I am assuming the flash process reads the VIN then confirms it's registered or you need to register it at that time.....once that check passed then the connection is not required.

    EDIT: Hotspot FTW!

EDIT EDIT: Now is when we could use flashing via Android @OVTune :boink:

Internet is not required during flashing.
Internet is required during query / gatthering ECU Info (ECU ID, VIN, etc).

So for example, it would require internet every time I flash my own truck, or after the first time the info is stored? @OVTune

The problem is I don't always have service where I go to tune trucks.

That's my worry, running a premium tune, and coming across a gas station that doesn't have premium and no cell service. I guess I could just switch tunes before a trip, but I've always used 91 in my truck.

I ran at least a few thousand miles on 87 with the 04B13 and 04B14 SFOB Prem tunes, including switching between 87 and 92 a several times. I never had an issue.

There is a post around here somewhere from @OVTune that says 87 on a Prem tune has to move the ignition set point further from optimal than 87 on a Reg tune. So, the tune will not have ideal performance.

In all conditions, I found it to do very well, just a bit mellower.

will the new update allow us to use a different laptop, v.s the one we originally registered under? I have been waiting for this, to get my software to a newer more stable platform. Ski

    Same here.

If I’ve got to have connectivity prior to flashing... that could cause an issue, not just for me but for a lot of people.

If i just need it to add credits to my account and phone home from time to time with remaining/used credits, thats not a huge deal.

    No doubt.

After about eight tanks of 87 this winter, I decided to swap back to 92 for the fun. With fill ups at my local Costco, the cost per mile difference is about $0.02. Pretty much negligible. Over the life of the Taco (46,000mi), except for one fillup, my cost per mile range is $0.12 to $0.17 anyway. I can't complain.

Starlink should fix your internet access issues while on Earth. $100/mo for global Internet is a steal.

We just need to bundle OVTune w/Starlink which will likely be everywhere but tunnels underground....unless...well...yeah

Not if Hyperloop has anything to say about it.

I just got a Starlink email update this morning. It is becoming available in my area. If the latency and bandwidth info is true, it could work. But, it is about $20/mo more that the 'gigabit' that we have now. A hopeful move to somewhere less dense is more possible though.
