Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Exact code. First upload of tune A threw me into limp mode pulling into cross traffic. Almost shit myself haha

 

Yeah and if you read what limp mode actually does - wow. The ECM cuts drive current to the throttle valve motor, so what you get is 7deg of opening (it's held that way by the spring). The ECM then controls engine O/P with ignition timing and intermittent fuel cut. Man, it's like you pulled 5 of 6 plug wires and tried to drive.

 

I had traffic stopped. Had to throw her into reverse, rev as high as limp mode would allow and modulate the handbrake so I wouldn't roll forward. It was stressful to say the least haha

 

I suggest just for safety stay in a neighborhood for a bit to make sure limp mode is not activated

 

And take your laptop with you

That to is key! Second time I ran 1.03 15C and could not clear the code to limp home. Had the wife bring me my laptop

 

Instead of a happy shit myself unfortunately it was a scared shit myself haha

 

I am sorry you guys ran into this issue, I am trying to figure out why. I really hope I can just update the ecu to 04B12 instead of continuing with this older calibration.

 

Would the dealers update to 04b12 for us ? Likly charge us out the ass for it,, unlike the at guys

 

Thing is, there's no "reason" for them to do it - unlike the auto trans trucks, where there are TSBs in place.

So the techs have no direction from Toyota to do what you are asking = piss off.

Hey @MOC221_ did you ever try to upload the updated 1.03 maps? I'm a little nervous about trying now that I know you had trouble with it unless you didn't get around to trying the updated files

 

He did. He didn't have any issues with map C, but did have issues with others. So for the time being please do not use 1.03

Okay got it. Bummer that this ECU is being so much trouble for so few of us... I guess now we know why Toyota went through two of them before finally deciding on 04b12

 

so Mat, may i ask if you have an ETA for releasing 1.03 for 04B12? @OVTune

I did, but factory parts tend to be more reliable and more bolt on with less issues, it's just inherent with the resources available. Plus, aftermarket tends to focus on big for more power. I want small for off idle torque offroading.

 

Is anyone with this tune running 4.88 gears? Are they compatible?
