Thx for clearing it up. I read through the 80 page VFtune pdf and several hundred pages in multiple threads here and was still unclear.

Im still in question for my OFT Handheld. Im happy with my tune, im even more excited now since the updated message in regards to the final tune file. I cant wait to experience the no throttle limits. But that being said, with how chaotic ovtune is right now. Ill continue my patience till I can have more flexibility to discuss what to do. I wanna be able to use VFtuner for myself with the OFT and also to tune locals. I mostly just need vftuner for my AGM battery and thats it and ill be happy with the final tune. Hopefully us handhelds can be dealt with because ive read alot and ive seen us OFT only mentioned couple times but theres nothing for me to do and emails have been sent a while back a few times but its whatever. Id rather see matt finish all the main parts right now then worry about me and vftuner. We get special BIN files and i heard they are used with vftuner but IDK what I need to do. I wonder if we have to purchase vftuner and or just the cable or both!?

Random question on the news software if updates to 2.0 happen will the tune pack get updated through the software? It looks like there is a way to check for updates in the unlocked id section under help. Just cannot connect to server

You’re not alone. This is exactly where I’m at right now too.

I Would love to get into some of the benefits of VF Tuner. Mostly just want to try out some of the great sounding user created tunes out there. But it’s not clear if that’s going to be possible with the OFT HH. Sounds like even VF Tuner Pro owners like @PapaRee don’t even have the ability to generate .bin files at this point.

The new main post appears to refer to flash kit owners only.
As per posts above, any update for OFT Handheld owners and how to get, or create, or convert to .bin files within VFTuner?

    Perhaps see this post?

I highly doubt any version of 2.0 will come to the openflash tablets. Best option may be to see if it can be returned for a Tactrix cable and VF flashing license to be current with what they’re doing with the Flash Kit owners.

Would be worth a conversation with their support email in the OP.

    Thanks BrettsMac08,

That is a very helpful post reference reminder.
I was hoping not to trade in the HH as it has nice advantages, but perhaps that is the only option
Handhelds did get 2.0, so we have a good tune, and I'm happy with what it achieved, in particular the shift logic fix was the biggest win.
I did send a zendesk on the latest test file.

If the HH file format eventually can be generated or converted in VFtuner, then great. If not, oh well, not the end of the world.
Mostly curious where that is at, or if dead in the water, so we can move on :)

    Much appreciated

Ive been on nothing but 2.0s with HH
Definitely might happen with this...but same time i think all we really need is the cable itself for other users and we can use VFtuner as everyone else. Long as we can read the correct files on our HH for building custom VFtunes we are golden. Its quite simple really at least from my POV but if it isnt, then we should see something about returning them. Until ovtune says such thing ima stay confident we can get vftuner access

I love the HH, its slick and its fast and i love i could slap it in my glovebox on a road trip if i need to do a quick flash say if premium fuel isnt available. Super simply. #1 reason I got it is so i dont have to carry a laptop or for the matter buy one.

That was my plan too... then the dreaded '18 incompatibility issue came up. About 8 months into waiting for it I asked for and received a refund.

Oh wow! I’m super glad 2.0 was released for the HH’s. I had no idea! Never been so glad to be wrong before! Haha.

I came super close to getting the handheld when I was ordering just last year but ended up with the standard cable and Flash Manager simply because they were out of stock. Seemed like it would be a more convenient way to flash for the same price ($699 at the time for either HH or the Cable + FM IIRC?).

    F7E3203F-88AD-4479-A497-9A39977D2FF0.jpg

Now I’m glad I’ll (hopefully soon) be able to upgrade to VF with flashing/logging support as I don’t really have any need to edit, but would love to be able to switch octanes, try community tunes, etc.

It would be super cool if VF could export some of those tunes, or at least OVTune’s own Tune Pack for the upcoming 2.0 map switching etc to the handhelds. Even better if it worked for anything in VF format to export to the bin files they need, but we’ll have to wait and see. From what it sounded like, 2.0 may be the only thing left or at best the tune packs. Maybe not all community tunes and things in VF. But it sure would be neat. Too bad the manufacturer of those tablets wasn’t stronger to make it through last year, could have really taken off.

I am so confused. Perhaps someone on here can do a little historic update.

In 2018 I purchased a flash kit, (not hand held) and did the flash to ver. 1.5.. What seemed like an eternity later, I installed ver. 2.0. (No gear lock). The gear lock was supposed to come later. Then Matt's baby, he moved, then Covid, then VfTuner( whatever that is). Not it appears that that Matt will no longer provide any of his own tunes. I am guessing after reading literally hundreds of posts that Matt decided that any of his own tunes could never satisfy even a fraction of the current tune owners, so he gave up and moved on to VFtuner whereby the owner of the truck does there own tune. i.e. Matt stays out of it. I never found out if gear lock was ever provided. Is Flash Manager and it's associated P5flash utility no longer viable? Should I just delete the whole program? If so, what is it replaced with?

So where am I supposed to go now. A reply from the Zendesk to this months ago stated that there were no updates to ver. 2.0 at that time. Is this still the case? If so, then am I to guess that what I have is what I get...thank you very much?!

If the flash kit isn't supported, then what do I do with it? Do I need to send it back and get Credits? (whatever those are?)

Is there any central location that actually puts this stuff in order? There is now 3561 pages of posts on this forum, and Matt's web site(s) are just as confusing. They are big on telling the potential buyer how good the product is, but what about those of us who already have the $700.00 product?

    Rant over..

    Thank you for your assistance..

    Regards

    Steve

There is a new flashing software coming out for those who do not want to upgrade to vftuner, that gives you the ability to log and flash the final version of 2.0 when it comes out.

let me see if I can help you understand

    1. We released 2.0 as it currently is today. This was before VF Tuner or anything else.
    2. Certain features (like gearlock) had mixed reviews, and too many people were confused on how it worked. We were even blamed for "breaking vehicles" (even though none broke) because people didn't understand how to use it.
    3. So we removed gearlock as a standard feature.
    4. We moved to release something we had been working on for quite a while even before 1.05 or 2.0 (VF Tuner), due to COVID and other uncertainties.
    5. VF Tuner was released so people could take the current tunes and modify them, make their own, etc. A majority of tacoma owners actually do enjoy the tunes we have provided and don't want to edit them at all, but for the folks who don't, we needed to provide something.
    6. Flash kits (with flash manager, p5f) were disabled / removed because some VF Tuner owners were selling flash manager files without authorization to do so. This was because of a previous developer we had (system ID based software) which allowed some backwards compatibility. There was even a "network" of people in california doing this while claiming to work for us while selling people stock tunes and disappearing with their money.
    7. So flash manager was disabled due to some piracy.
    8. People who own flash kits are being updated to our whole new software, with 2 options. Upgrade to VF tuner full for a small fee, or upgrade to VF Tuner "lite"( no editing, just flash/log) for free.
    9. We are working on tune updates which includes features like gear-lock / map switching and stuff, which will be optional in VF Tuner. The point of that is so that people can pick exactly what they need / want.

Regarding handheld to VF Support we are working on the best course for this and will update when a solution is ready

Any advice on where to learn about how to make changes? How to make gear lock and the pedal tip in for now, but would like to understand it all more some day. My computer, particularly windows, skills are fairly weak, so I’m going slow to keep the frustration level down.

so im guessing my original ovtune software is inoperable now? i liked using that for 2.0 as i had no .vft 2.0 files.

Thank you mat ! No worries. I still enjoy my truck everyday with 2.0 Premium THX. The throttle control is so much better! Still love this Handheld.
