I see no reason why Toyota wouldn't put/hide a 'counter' into the ECU, especially if it's unbelievably complex as op stated. I'm all for it, but the jaded corporate bastard inside of me says Toyota has every reason to put something like a counter to deter or deny warranty claims from tuned trucks. Thoughts op?

bitbox's video indicates their solution provides checksum calculation, so I'd guess that a checksum on the map is utilized.

Exactly. All this time all of us have been waiting for an olive branch, and now finally OP is giving it ... and some here are already throwing it away.
I hope OP doesn't get discouraged and say fuck off and leave. Seriously.
This is the single and only proven route to increase usable HPs instead of all of your stupid $500 air box mods. Especially on a modern day internal combustion engine with these ridiculous VVTI's. If you can't understand this simple fact, then you can't be helped. Performance, rally cars and endurance racers having been doing this and get specialized tuning and programming for their cars for years now.
For those complaining here, Look guys, you don't have to do this if you don't want it.

You really can't fault Toyota or any company for trying to deny warranty claims when people do something like this.

Why should they warranty someone else's "hacked together" work? I certainly wouldn't. I doubt any of the sponsored vendors here would warranty their stuff if you modified it in a way that caused a problem or otherwise changed the way they intended it to be used.

Imagine some poster bitching about mobtown for not fixing their sliders under warranty, because the poster decided to attach it with homemade bolts. We'd laugh him off the site. (But we get pissy with car manufacturers for doing the same thing when we reprogram their complicated chips)

I get it, I just want my cake and eat it to. So everything possible should be done to mask the ECU burn.

This is a no brainer, people are paying $175 for a box to shift S mode for them.

Just because you feel something works fine does not mean you don't want to make it better.

I could give 2 F's if this voids warranty, mines almost up anyways. I have a lot of faith in the 2gr

I'm personally not faulting anyone, Toyota included. Simply trying to illuminate the possibility that Toyota has some sort of counter (being an actual 'counter') to an ECU re-flash. OP seems legit, but I don't take him at face value when he says the way the ECU is designed would leave Toyota and it's dealerships no possibility of checking to see if the ECU has been re-flashed/messed with. Car manufacturers are generally smarter than that, and this has been proven to have been the case with other vehicle manufacturers, like Porsche, in the past.

I'm all for more power, but not at the expense of my 7 year warranty. ESPECIALLY with the problems these new trucks have had, I would think that if Toyota did have something set up to track or see that the ecu has been messed with, they could use that as the basis for denying the warranty claim on anything related.. and the ECU is practically related to every internal in this vehicle.

I understand that we have trucks not sports cars, but I really think there is a lot more potential in the 2GR that is being limited by DBW, Atkinson, and mundane tuning put in by Toyota.

First and foremost, if you are worried about voiding your warranty or Toyota catching you committing some "wrong-doing" then why are you even posting in this thread?

I can see from your reply that you really don't have much knowledge in modifying vehicles. Also, anyone who has worked at a dealership service center knows that the technicians there are limited by not only by their knowledge but also the tools that they have. The Toyota ECU is super encrypted and they are not going to have the tools readily available to see what values OVtune changed by flashing the ECU. The facts that the OP has laid out is common sense that is being stated by someone who has vastly more knowledge than you have.

That being said, can we please keep this thread on topic? Its been less than 24 hours and we already have 7 pages which 98% of is total bullshit.

Do you happen to know if 3rd gen 2.7's have gone down the multi-map rabbit hole or do they still utilize the "old school" simpler map method?

Agreed. A tune is just like any other mod. Some people want lifts, others want go fast parts. Some want both. Has nothing to do with being unhappy.

    all tore up already
Good on you @OVTune. Anxiously await more info and release (hopefully) for the mt. Sounds like it should be much easier without shift points and torque converter code. Couldnt get past page 3 though with the boneheads. And to @Pittrider and the other dope asking how this is different from all the other tunes available... just shutup please and keep tw threads somewhat informative
