sorry the post didn't go through.
    Upcoming release info for:
    2018 + AT 04A60
    2018 +AT 04A70
    2015 + MT 04B10/11/12
    - new binary licensing code
    - Level II ECU-Shield Protection
Note these updated tunes will encompass all pending updates that have been talked about and what is being waited for (ignition updates, etc).
(and then the same but AT folks will be for 1.03)
a bunch of little updates and new license and protection model for the ECU with these updated tunes.

    **
update to licensing to match ROMs with VINS and Serial numbers
update to licensing unique identifier strings

    **
    ECU-Sheild
    - ECU license protection mechanism and custom modified code which will now lock ECUs on flash, making it impossible to obtain data / contents once flashed. (unless flashed back to stock)
    - Will still report as "OEM" to a techstream

this has been part of the lag with moving forward on 1.03 is finishing up our new protection layers.

So is the ECU shield something you are doing as part of the flashes or is this a new feature inherent to the 2018 ECUs as a new layer of protection from tuning in the ECUs? Trying to understand whether this affects 16-17s and more understanding of the purpose if this applies to pre-18 models. Keep up the incredible work!! ;)

I am not speaking for Ovtune, butttttt.
I will put money that it prevents reading the tune off the ECU to make it harder for a competitor from stealing Matt's intellectual work. But I might be wrong and it is just to help to guarantee Toyota can't see the tune. Pretty sure it isn't 18 related....

    Ok...What about updates for the 2016-17 Tacoma's?
It's somewhat obvious this new protection is more for you than your customers, however does this benefit the customer in anyway?
Do any of these updates or developments streamline anything to make the process easier?

I'm sorry but while this is an update, its not what I would consider anything I've been looking for.
I've asked a few questions that haven't really been answered. Perhaps I should email them?

I realize I bought into a alpha development for something that no one else is doing or has done. But let's honest here, From the outside Mat's workload looks downright insane.
I think there's way to many platforms Mat is tackling and I think he see's it hence the update stating he was going to focus only on a few particular platforms.

So...Am I getting impatient? Damn right I am. When I see Mat branching out to other things it's irritating because the 3rd gen is far from complete.
The 3rd gen has proven to be a serious cash cow even for the foreseeable future so you'd think we'd get more resources allocated towards this to get a product that doesn't damn there eat/learn itself back to its old habits.

let's hunker down and get this finished in a timely manner. Mat I kept my truck because you gave me hope when I was about to get rid of it. I'm starting to lose the hope you gave me last year. I don't care about a turbo kit or anything else that I have to purchase in the future. I simply want a quality product and delivery on the vision that was promised sometime ago to the 3rd gen community. These guys have been more than patient Mat and that's not fair.

$750 spent and I have to reflash every 400-1000 miles.
Shift map A caused me to clunk to when downshifting.
From a customer stand point does that seem acceptable?

I realize i'll catch shit for this post but so be it. I know a lot of people will disagree but just as many will agree to.

if you check my website I've actually eliminated a lot of stuff that I was working on, solely to focus on just a few things (I posted this I think a few days ago). just mazda, tacoma mainly, and ecutek nissan stuff.
I'm not branching out to other things I've actually eliminated over 50% of what I was doing as side stuff just this month. I've done it for that exact reason. Too much work, things falling behind. Now it's literally Mazda, Tacoma 3.5, Tacoma 4.0, and ecutek (which is by far simpler and not really takes my time).

    1. You don't have to reflash every 400-1000 miles. If you drive the truck differently than the standard every day commute, the learning will change.
    2. Have you tested any other shift maps?

1.03 is almost done and as I have said is much better. 1.03 is for the 2016-2017 tacomas. The reason it is taking so long is I want it DONE, DONE. Not something that needs updating again. The update I posted earlier is not required right now. It's something that I've been working on that is an update that will be implemented into the new upcoming files everyone has been waiting for. So for 2016-2017 AT trucks, this will be inside the 1.03.
    I've gone from 1.01A > 1.01B > 1.02A/B/C > I want 1.03 as the FINAL. Doing so takes so much time.
I have to test so many driving modes.. this isn't a flash, drive it down the street, "feels good" and done.
    I have D mode 2wd, D mode 2wd ECT
    S-mode,
    4hi, 4low, ECT, etc
I have to make sure it works everywhere, every scenario.

The update that I posted above also included (but not highlighted) all of the updates I've been working towards with ignition.

Anyways, I hope you see I am agreeing with you, and understand your disappointment. I wish I could make this go faster, the trucks ECU is just so complex.

If you have asked questions, I have not seen them. These threads get cluttered and side tracked quite often so I don't follow the posts as much.

and the very few people providing feedback on 1.03 have "day 1" stuff. Nowhere near what I have right now. They have the 1.03 stuff I started on back when I got the development truck. A lot of things were requested for 1.03 and I want to deliver as best I can.

    Edit***
Hopefully my post about the update wasn't confusing but so everyone is aware this is stuff put into new tune updates. It's not a tune update on its own.

Mat my truck is going to have the diff recall service done this Friday. I currently run the 1.02c c shift. If they flash/update software, do I still need to send this to you?

Good work, Mat. I appreciate the rigor you're putting into this to get it right and I know it's hard to let go of some pet projects that may be more interesting and exciting than where the demand is for the business so those decisions are tough. I think it's important for folks to know that given the complexity of this ECU it wouldn't be uncommon for a large team of folks to be working through something this complex with a very long development window. I for one am glad you didn't wait for PERFECTION to get initial products out the door. There are still things to iron out for sure, but ever since that first drop of 1.01b I had, my truck has been an entirely different beast to drive. I'm just glad you didn't stop there and leave it with the increased throttle response and timing updates for 91 - though if you had, you likely still would have drummed up a lot of business.

    1. I drive my truck like I stole it, but I do drive a lot of freeway miles during my commute. That has recently changed since my company gave me a car to drive.
    2. I ran the 91 Shift A I believe, which is your most aggressive. I liked the map but it was causeing my transmission to clunk and shift like crap when coming to a stop or a sudden stop. This was really noticeable when the truck was driven after just being started or it was really cold.
I’m currently running 91 Shift C which I believe covers gears 2-5. These behaviors are not present at the moment and I’m trying to put more miles on to see if that changes any.

I appreciate your response and I’m happy to hear your looking to focus more on the 3rd gen. I obviously would rather you test everything and make sure it works in all scenarios than just send it out and have the same ol crap or worse.

I know your busy but in the future try to update us so the wait is easier to get through. Keeping us in the loop also adds to the excitement and probably drums up more customers.

I look forward to a finished and polished 1.03 in the coming weeks/months.

91 1.02C Shift C is considered the most aggressive since it has all shift points changed
