My search here hasn't revealed much in the signal:noise ratio...

2017 M6, w/ V6; will this tune fix the dead throttle in low gears at lower RPMs, and when downshifting to pass on the interstate, etc?

The only loathesome thing about this truck is the lack of throttle/engine response when downshifting the manual... hell, even when just shifting normally. It's almost like the throttle is on a coffee break when pressed

    Typical driving:
1st gear - smooth off the clutch release, and truck accelerates as expected (maybe a bit choppy)
    shift
2nd gear - noticeable pause from the engine response-to-throttle input... engine begins to rev up to expected acceleration after some seconds have transpired, then truck accelerates as expected.
    shift
3rd~6th gears - Occasional pause from engine response-to-throttle input, but also sometimes a smooth acceleration and pull to shift point of next gear.

Downshifting to make a pass.... mixed bag... sometimes have to d/s two gears to get an expected response of clutch engagement~truck acceleration.

This is the first manual transmission vehicle I've had where the throttle/fuel/engine are controlled electronically and not by physical connection via cables, etc... so I'm more than a bit frustrated and disappointed with the engine~throttle response.

Growing up as a gearhead/tuner in the 80's and 90's was all prior to OBD, ECU tuning, and throttle-by-wire; so I'm trying to be patient and learn what my options are to bring my Taco up to expectations.

In my experience, when I pull a downshift to a lower gear and press the throttle; it should equal an immediate acceleration and response from the vehicle. This... pause I'm getting from the Tacoma's engine/throttle is infuriating at times; ESPECIALLY when I need to get past a slower moving vehicle, or egress from a driver-gone-stupid on the interstate.

Thanks to OVTune and the beta testers for the work to fix Toyota's problem.

yes, although the definition of "fix" is somewhat subjective. it's why i sought out a tune in the first place.

Okay here is a short video I did yesterday of cruise control. First time ever using cruise control in this truck! lol

it was very steady and was able to maintain 6th for a majority of the drive, it will downshift if it has to on a big hill, but steady inclines (tried to show you in the video) it will maintain 6th.

Ignore the MPG average on my screen, I was flooring it a lot, but my highway drive yesterday was the best MPG my truck has ever recorded in it's short life.

on inclines MPG goes down to about 13-14, but flat ground was easily 20+
This was tested on the highway with several small and a few steep inclines
downshifted only 2 times on high grades. A few times in the video I show you I'm going uphill in 6th
Overall it maintains 6th gear in cruise beautifully.

I would like to get a few people to test this and the changes to S mode (full lock status always) which is so damn fun but kills MPG
I'll show you guys a video of S-Mode vs stock S-mode

Completely independent of what's being shown in the vid but am I the only one who always laughs at how very much the turn by turn nav voice sounds like the announcements at airports? Lol "Please proceed to Gate A-4. Now boarding Group B." Smh

    Sweet vid

S-mode full lock sounds interesting but also sounds like could cause excessive heat under load? In any case, this sounds fun. i know it's not this easy, but it would be awesome if S-mode still behaved similar to stock (with your torque changes of course) but then ECT in S-mode triggered the full lock status when we want to have fun with it ;)

Also really interested to hear your explanation on how you've been able to achieve the shifting progress D mode where it sounds you've been able to limit when it can upshift to overdrive at lower speeds and also prevent it from re-learning how to revert. I know lots are interested in this detail when you have the time!

Great progress - hope you landed a big deal w/ the alternative fuels company yesterday!

I have figured out how to control everything in D mode and will have an explanation on it today once I have some free time. All driving on the video was D mode. I now know how to make the transmission do whatever I want, go straight to 6th, limit to 4th gear until below certain speeds, lock, unlock, etc. I've also figured out how to manipulate JUST 6th gear.

OMG, when I turn on cruise control it sounds like I am racing. 6th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th, 6th... And thats the first 5 miles. Even when it does shift in the video it seems very reasonable and smooth. I have always hated that on the highway you move over to pass, give it a little bit of gas and it sounds and acts like you are on a two lane road following someone slow and up ahead it looks like you might have enough room to pass and you floor it and it sounds like you are taking off. THAT video, that is what I want!!!!!!!

    Hey Mat -

Can you give us your opinion on which bolt on upgrades are worth while, in regards to performance gains?

General consensus seems to be that "cold air intakes" add very little to nothing, but your comment on the full exhaust is intriguing, to say the least.

Cold air intake is a minor change, FULL exhaust system dramatically changes the air to fuel ratio and requires a tune to see any performance gains.

So then I ask, will any iteration of the tunes be properly tuned for a full exhaust? I would assume, yes...otherwise, Mat would not have made his previous statement (250 hp...potentially).

Wow! This looks awesome! If you need testers on Cruise Control, I can help. I dont use S mode very often, but use cruise control on the regular. Living in the middle of Texas, it takes 6 hours to get to anywhere great to camp/wheel/overland. Heading on the next adventure to Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas in 1 week and cruise will be super helpful for the 7 hour drive there and back.

THIS! LOL. Is it possible to fall in love with a tune before we even get it? Im glad its called Cupid! LOL
