Might be questioning your lack of computer ownership considering it would be impossible to post here without one. Smart phones are computers through and through. Literally no difference between a desktop PC and a smart phone in terms of the fundamental hardware architecture used. Just smaller and more efficient components.

That being said I have loads of computers and yet I do not have a Windows laptop that's not ancient. I will have to borrow one if I end up getting this tune.

I think the number of people without a Windows laptop is increasing these days because of the advancements to smart phones. I do everything that I once did on a laptop on my phone now.

With the exception of operating systems, hardware capabilities (and sometimes architecture), and therefore software compatibility, sure. Staying with the topic, he doesn't have a computer capable of installing the tune, which is what's important.

You can also send them your ECU. They may offer a handheld option at some point. The nice thing about the way they are doing it will allow for semi custom tunes using data logs you send them after the baseline is loaded. I was hoping to get them my data before the weekend but doesn't look like it. Need to swap keys twice and haven't received the first one yet. Was just excited about getting this going.

Like I asked last night... What's happening now? Did the user whose truck was on the dyno yesterday drive home with the tune and then proceed to fade into the abyss? Is he or she a TacomaWorld member? Can we get some real-world feedback?

Cool rig. Had two in the day. Now I'm helping my grandson build one using some of my old parts.

Grab a small monitor and take it out to the truck, it'll work.

Long time lurker on this thread, also waiting to hear any real-world experience, and also waiting to hear any negatives. Props to OVT if it really works.
Btw; the comment about 91 octane on its own adding power to a stock 16-17 V6; I did a search and people seem to have experiences both ways; it helps, and it makes no difference. I've run nothing but 87 in my 17', but I'd buy 91 if it honestly increased the power a bit, any further thoughts on that gents?

I've seen the same thing. I've got no idea one way or the other, and I haven't seen anything from anybody that would know like Toyota or @OVTune. My plan is to get my truck dynoed on 87 soon, switch to 91, get dynoed, add the tune (and maybe exhaust) and then get dynoed again. This is a few months out though.

Can this be implemented for manual transmissions?

Hey @OVTune - do you think you can make the tune where you press ECT, it ups the rev/shift limit to 6,500rpm, or higher ? I see the lexus you increase all the way up to 7,400rpm... that would be a huge increase from the current 6,000rpm limit. It is the same motor, no?

Has anyone gone into the part numbers database to verify the cams, rods, pistons, etc. are the same between tacoma and IS350/GS350?

Are you able to tune out the shifting to make it shift quicker? my GS shifts alot quicker than the tacoma, especially in sport mode. This would also be very nice when ECT is engaged (higher RPM / faster shifting).

    Thoughts?

It really depends on a lot of stuff, but when building an engine like with a turbo or lets say a blower lower compression is one of the first things to consider.

You can push a lot more air/fuel into the cylinder with lower compression ratio before pre-ignition will hole a piston. In order to get better gas mileage and power w/o a turbo/blower manufacturers are increasing the compression ratio. Downside is you have to use high octane fuel or sacrifice power. Think about it a diesel engine that uses very high compression to ignite the air/fuel charge. You don't want to turn your gas engine into a diesel so manufacturers de-tune the engine under certain conditions to protect it from blowing up. That's why the loss of power.
