Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Only Toyota knows why. Good luck getting an answer from them!

 

Here's a summary of what we can say with relative certainty:
- Toyota (likely engineers) now know Mat and they are chatting about "something"
- Toyota knows he has a tune that's gotten rave reviews. You can't search Google for Tacoma's w/o getting TW, and if you search "tacoma tune" OVTune is the first thing that pops up most of the time...
- Mat is still developing and selling tunes in the meantime
- Thus whatever is happening w/ Toyota it is most likely a friendly relationship
- Toyota can tell from the response/reviews/etc., that people really love how these trucks drive with the stock tune cleaned up significantly - without adding undue stress on components/heat/etc.,

What Mat and Toyota are doing with that information will remain a mystery - hell Mat's probably under NDA not to talk about it beyond the vague comment on here. But one thing I'd take away from that is that it's probably even less likely folks need to be paranoid about dealer flashes and whatnot. Mat has always been very clear that he isn't going to claim to know more than Toyota and has shown some level of respect in that regard. Mat may be getting some great insights into the thinking behind the original tune - as many have wondered "WHY!?" did they do things the way they did. Information is power and he's proven that in sorting through the code and dissecting it with no help from Toyota he can make some big improvements in drivability without causing damage, what could/can he do with more knowledge? the fun will continue

I think their hands were tied by CARB, CAFE and bean counters. The terrible stock calibration was the result of a crap load of compromises IMO.

 

If Toyota is smart they will reach an agreement with Mat. Find out what he's done. And simply sell it as a TRD tune for way more money at a dealership level.

 

I'm sure meeting EPA requirements had a lot to do with it.

 

Everyone is assuming he spoke with engineers, or lawyers... hell all the man said was Toyota called today, coulda been the damn dealership for service for all we plebeians know! Lol

 

Matt's selling the tune to Toyota for a large amount of money, and Toyota will be reimbursing us for the OVT tune...

 

Am I the only one wondering why, at a couple million in pre order revenues, the Talent that is Mat, is still packing pre orders for shipment himself?! Hire a shipping manager and an PR manager so people A get answers and B get product... I’m sure there’s reasons, but as a business minded person I feel like he isn’t recognizing the value of his time.
