shouldn't matter, I used pcm flash that says 1.1.83. what mattered was making sure i was using the latest flash manager.

if you follow the steps in the instruction slowly and don't get ahead of yourself, you should be fine. I had a couple issues, but all of them were because I was too anxious and got a step or two ahead of the instructions.

don't give up... just start over and follow the steps deliberately. I had to do this to stop myself from being over anxious and having problems

I got my serial number this afternoon and installed it. I made a new video following the latest instructions so hopefully this is helpful to anyone who hasn't done it before.

I've never done an ECU Flash before (but I had a piggyback ECU on my WRX STi). It took about 10 minutes for computer setup the first night and 15 minutes the next day for connecting and flashing the truck (due to a small delay from anti-virus).

I did a quick 12 mile drive to the grocery store with a small highway detour and I like it so far, but I'll reserve full judgement until i get through a tank and try 91.

Thanks for the advice, and yes there will be a shitload of data in the CSV file. I'm bringing my son (co-pilot) along to manipulate the record controls so that only a few seconds of data is captured right when I want it.
    Sounds easy, right?

    Lol

Cool! Nice work. Now we just need one for an AT...if there is any difference.

My understanding is that is basically the same. On the auto after the ECU flash there is an extra step for the TCU (transmission) flash but it's basically the same, you just have to choose a different protocol as noted in the instructions.

if you follow each step in order, and make sure you have everything installed (2 things.. the drivers) it should all work. A user posted a really really good video on the previous page that goes over every little step

Thanks for this! Question though, I'm trying to do step 1-2 and every single time I plug in the dongle I don't get a serial number. I've tried multiple times and get the same result. All drivers have been installed already. Any help or advice?

Before running PCMFlash, did you insert the dongle?
Download and install drivers. Insert dongle. Run PCMFlash.

Yes, I've followed those exact steps and I still get the "USB Dongle not accessible" where the serial # should be popping up. No idea what I'm doing wrong. I've uninstalled and deleted everything and started all over and keep getting the same results

This is one of the issues that has kept me on the sideline watching. I'd like to be able to customize my shift points.

I want the transmission to be in whatever gear gives the best MPG. It concerns me that almost everyone in this thread doesn't want it to shift into 6th, ever, unless they're going 70 mph or XX mph... OTOH you have most people in the manual thread bragging on how slow they can go in 6th now with the tune.

I have zero problems with the stock 6th UPshift. It will not upshift into 6th unless you are very light on the throttle; but then, as you say, it is reluctant to downshift causing you to lose speed and perhaps requiring more aggressive throttle input risking a downshift to 4th (especially w/ CC). I think the transmission doesn't shift enough... that's its job. The 4th and 5th upshift conditions at light to medium throttle are stupid, though; and, actually produce inferior MPG to my active use of S mode (3, 4, 5, 6).

I see some are reporting improved MPG, which is promising; but, it sounds like MPGs are being left on the table due to so many wanting to do a Pike's Peak climb in 6th.

The manuals have 4.30 rear end gears at are 3.90. We at guys can’t use 6th that low in the rpm range, not enough gear.

Yeah, I know. It's just funny how diametrically opposed the discussion is between MT and AT.

At steady speed on level ground at anything above 40mph, 6th is the gear to be in for mpg; but, as soon as you need to accel or climb with just a bit of throttle... it should downshift... but it doesn't.
