Non ethanol here in Oregon is getting hard to find and usually $1 more per gallon.

I drive about 100 miles a day minimum for work so it seems I'm always filling up lol. I use 91 octane already anyways since it runs less than $4 per tank difference in my area.

@OVTune, if I remember correctly. you stated we can save the stock file and tuned file and switch back to stock if needed. What are chances we can have three file ( stock, 91 tunned and 87 tunned) saved?

I wish. Anywhere from .70-$1 more per gallon here.

This would be helpful for traveling and 91/93 isnt readily available.

The factory "tune" will pull timing if any pinging/knocking/detonation is detected, many aftermarket "tunes" keep this safety factor too. So, if you have higher octane tune, and have to run a lower octane fuel, the ECU will compensate by retarding timing, safeguarding your engine and lowering your performance simultaneously. I'm not saying I know anything about the tune we are buying here, but it would surprise me if it did not continue to do this.

It's so noticeable that a thread was started about it:

Try having your engine braking let go all of a sudden when going down a steep hill in 4lo 1st gear!

We can do this. We have got a lot of requests for 87 oct files. it would be similar to our 91, without the ability to run 91 oct Ignition and AFR. Otherwise torque / throttle / camshaft maps are the same (except low rpm VVT-intake) So yes, no problem can easily be done.

If you put 87 in on a 91 file the engine will get some initial knock (pretty bad) switch over to a lower IGN K-factor multiplier and you'll be stuck with less power than stock until the ECU can adequately adjust the multipliers back up to "stock" or higher.

    It's related to DFCO control.

Running any octane higher than 91 on a 91 oct tune = even better.

** for our orders ** we had to order an additional 50x cables which will be here friday morning. Tune kit orders are closed as of this morning, preparing kits as fast as possible thanks. Thank you all!

Working on dissecting some of the lesser controls for an upcoming update. We will be back on the dyno soon. :)

Having to run 91 or higher is the price to pay for a leaner A/F, more ign timing and power. Im hopimg for a Ethanol map! Haha

How different would the torque numbers be on an 87 oct tune vs a 91 oct tune?

Not sure what DFCO control is but can this annoying and dangerous loss of compression braking be tuned out of the manuals?

So does anyone have this tune kit installed yet? I skimmed through the pages, didnt see much of actual users.

One person that we know of has it installed. He wrote a short report but he hadn't driven it very far at that time so he didn't list a lot of info. As of now, two members that I'm aware of just received their final file. They need to install it in their trucks. We should be getting a report from them any day now. If I remember, one of the guys had quite a bit of fuel in his tank and he wanted to run it down so he could fill with 91 octane. The other I can't remember but it was going to take him a few days before he was going to install it. I'm guessing we'll have at least one report by Friday. I think the entire 3rd gen forum is waiting.
