there are NO "hard" downshift, ever, for me tuned. I know what you're taking about though as this annoyed the hell out of me on stock and was one of 100 other reasons I tuned the truck.

This tune isn't quite perfect, but I'd never take it off. It gives you so much more useable power. The tranny flash is the only thing that still needs work. I'll occasionally get a hard shift when I decelerate then accelerate again, but thats the computer dowmshifting right when I punch it on the second half of the turn. That's just the truck, not the tune. Even with my 285 tires the difference is fantastic though. This truck runs great. As I understand it the stock tire size folks who tuned said the tranny flash worked wonders for them. My 285s still give me shifting issues on the hwy, but for what it's worth, I can accelerate uphill in 5th and 6th now. That alone is crazy to me. I wouldn't second guess getting the tune if I had to choose again.

@jrdills hit it above... my trucks MFD: Texas 08/16 and idols sporadically ac on, into 1st or reverse always has not from the tune but doesn’t bother me. It also has always jumped/surged going from P to D or R it’s just felt a little more because the of the extra power now . Doesn’t bother me just keep foot on brake if I’m in parking lot ( happens rarely though). Mine will also fall flat on its face in S mode 1st at redline.. Easy fix shift earlier or stay in D going WOT doesn’t do it. Matt says he has a fix for it. Your truck may already have the issues stock try and look for them. The tune will allow you to eventually get rid of them..

Also notable, I'm going to be sizing up to 305 70 16 tires on Friday, I'll let you all know how the tune keeps up with these new rubbers. They are going to be lighter than my 285 nittos though, so maybe it will actually be better for power!

I would agree with the occasional bog feeling with the shifting as it does seem to want to find 5th and hang onto it in non-highway or slow driving where I'd prefer it stay in 4th for example. I'm sure that part's hard when on one hand you hear feedback that people want it to stop downshifting to 4th on the slightest incline when on the highway - solved, but then you hear "we want it to hold onto 4th in this scenario, but not that." Getting the shift points dialed in for all different driving scenarios alone is a task, but to do that and then mute the layers and layers of "learning" that risk undoing whatever perfect shift points you've dialed in is nuts in scale...

When driving 70-80 on the highway though, this truck has never ever driven as predictably as it does now!

While there's definitely more refinement that can come with time on that front for sure and given what Mat's done to this transmission already I have no doubt there will continue to be improvements on that front, but the transmission WORKS and a touch of the pedal makes it GO and not just from a throttle perspective. You can feel the way he's dialed in the torque converter locking paired with the throttle response and more linear power.

No regerts (yep :) ) here.
I bought the tune for the better application of power delivery, and I got that in full. I was hoping it'd help compensate for the 35" Ridge Grapplers at 75mph on the interstate, however I'm now convinced that 4.88s are the only solution in that scenario. Around town this 91 tune is lovely. Crisp throttle. Great power with the large tires.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I'm still running SSP on map #3 and I'm loving the OVT SSP combo. The raised shift points on that map are ideal.

Yesterday hauling about 700 lbs in the bed on the freeway in heavy traffic with ECT on and in D, I experienced harsh engagement coasting at 3 to 5 mph and then slowly applying throttle. It klunked really hard. My wife said what was that...? I noticed this a few times more but not as pronounced as the first time. Seems like the shifting has lost some of its smoothness. I will be paying close attention to this to see if it settles out or continues.

Yeah guys don’t get me wrong, the truck is much better than stock.

I’ve also ran every version of this tune and haven’t been stock for a long long time.

I need to flash back to stock to see how bad it was.

I wouldn't be worried. I am continually developing around anything that pops up. Also I wouldn't take all info from just this to make judgement. I've done over 400 of these trucks now and most have no problems.

There are so many different versions of these trucks, lifts, tire size, weight, mods, etc that it won't be "perfect" for 100 percent of people.

Agreed. I'd love to see a TCU tune specific to 35" tires that raises the shift points like the SSP does. I don't think the user base is large enough to ask for such customization though.

I was going to ask if going back to a stock tune was an option and I didn't have enough years of life left to read through 740 pages to figure that out lol.

Download the stock tune from Flash Manager if you didn't read the stock tune from your truck before you flashed.

Agree with many comments here. Too many to quote, but essentially nothing is perfect, and cannot be for everyone.

Truck is better with the tune, still little issues, but unless you buy a custom design tune, just need to adapt to the limitations.

The $$ spent on the tune saved me the depreciation of selling or trading my truck because I became increasingly unhappy with shifting ever since the test drive. I don’t mind driving the truck around town or on the freeway anymore. Problem solved. Look forward to continued updates.

I have about 400 miles on the tune and I'm running 87 tune. the 4->3rd downshift was and still is a hard downshift for me. I have a mile long 10% grade near where I live. The first couple of times it did the 4->3 downshift and held. The last couple times I've driven that hill it's hunted 4-3-4-3-4 in normal and ECT PWR mode. It's my main issue with the tune. It needs to downshift earlier and hold longer under heavy throttle. It needs to upshift earlier under light throttle.
