Yeah I quoted we all sarcastically because some people in this thread are saying it only changes shift points. I forgot sarcasm doesn't translate through text well.

Wow guys sorry if we confused anyone!

To clear up a couple of things on ECT mode, throttle control between the autos and manuals:

    ECT mode -
ECT mode changes the upshift parameters in the ECU so that it upshifts at different designated RPM / road speed
there are also throttle control maps that are dependent on ECT mode. So yes ECT changes throttle.
There are also throttle maps that change for different designated "CRAWL" selection

We categorized it as "similar" to how the throttle response / control changes in "S/ S+" mode on Lexus vehicles because it is quite literally the same style calibration mapping just stripped, rebadged, and thrown in the tacoma. HOWEVER, You can't make a direct comparison with the tacoma and any lexus vehicle. Sorry if that confused anyone. Our blog about the 2GR is specific to lexus and the 2GR FSE, which is quite different than the 2GR FKS.

The manual transmission is a lot simpler. It uses the exact calibration features for throttle control with torque / limits / targets as almost any other toyota / lexus with the same logic. (with exception to the progressive torque / throttle intelligence control).

I can explain further on this if more clarification is needed. One thing that we are looking into for the future is enabling "crawl control" on automatics that don't have it (4x4). The calibration code is there, the table data is all available, it's just not "enabled" because the vehicle doesn't have the selection dial. We're thinking this is very similar to how Lexus does it, by literally leaving all the "S+" code in the ECU, and just removing the dial from allowing you to select S+! (dont take this as "confirmed" more digging is required)

File loaded and did 40 miles so far. I will say I like it and nothing more until the ECU completes learning. I will give impressions after 100-200 miles.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Just a heads up, the trd or 4x4s with crawl control come with an upgraded brake booster system. I don't have more specifics but as far as I knew it is entirely to support the crawl control for ATs and A-TRAC for manuals. The code may very well be there but the non TRD OR models may not have the brake system needed to support crawl control.

Thanks!. I suspect that if these parts were put on a non TRD OR model and wired into the ECU (if toyota was mean enough to not leave the wiring) then it would work as a TRD vehicle.

Not as easy as lexus, literally a S mode dial.

When I get a chance I'll do a whole in-depth write up on the 2GR FKS and control system. Might answer any left over questions. I'll do the auto and manual so people understand differences in interactions depending on what transmission you have.

Any idea on the possibility of enabling use of the rear differential locker in any other drive mode aside from 4L? The locker is specific to the TRD off road. This was a popular mod with the second gen and many of us third gen owners were quite disappointed when we learned a simple 'work around' was not available.

I'll need to take a closer look at how it is implemented and how it interacts with the ECU before I can determine what can be done

This would be awesome, that sort of work is what allows enthusiasts to really get into the potential of a motor.

if you want a temp map I can revert the ignition and fueling changes back to stock, and it will just have torque / throttle mode adjustments. Temporary, but lets you get a feel for it. (won't be much change in power though)
