It looks like their kit is to keep the torque converter locked more often. For the 3.5 with the thin torque down low, we need the torque converter unlocked more often.

I can somewhat accept that the 3rd gen was a hurried response to the GM twins and decided to put lipstick on the pig rather than spend tons into new R&D. I find it hard to believe they cut corners on a $80k vehicle. From reviews, it sounds like the Lexus (sedan) transmissions are well sorted out, so it's not like Toyota forgot how to program a transmission.

    I've got just over 1000 miles on 1.03 87.

Yesterday, I filled up 91 octane in anticipation for the new tune this weekend. Immediately, the engine seems to run smoother, slightly better acceleration. Shifts feel more crisp / precise. Got 2 MPG better with the 91 so far. I wanted little more low end power, truck still downshifts to 5th or 4th on some of the hills on the highway on my commute to work. I hope to eliminate these downshifts with slight bump in low end power. These are not crazy steep hills, truck is just barely loosing speed in 6th with 87 octane tune.

Extremely excited for the optional 1.03 release, looking forward to the refined throttle tip in, and shift enhancements.

I'm also going to say I have 0 tip-in problems with the 87 tune I just flashed, the only problem so far is my lead foot :D

I'd say it feels like somewhere between yesterday and the weekend.

Are you saying that you had not yet flashed to the 91 tune and while running 91 fuel with the 87 tune you felt the differences ?

yeah, even stock these trucks run better on premium so makes sense you'd notice a positive change on the 87 tune

I can vouch for this, i had a quieter engine STOCK using 91octane and better mpg. Its like this engine wants to run on hogher octane but toyota pushed it to run on regular

Yeah when I ran 93 octane stock 3 major things I noticed
    - That "slight miss" feeling where it is kind of bogged and feels like it's slipping under light acceleration disappeared.
    - Harmonic vibrations in the throttle / steering wheel reduced significantly
    - Was absolutely quieter, but the chirp from the HPFP was also much quieter vs. on 87

For these reasons I was very hesitant to even try a OVTune 87, but indeed the dialed in 87 tune drives better and smoother than 93 did on stock 87 tune. And actually I feel like a lot of times OVTune 87 is actually a bit smoother than 91 though the 91 tune absolutely has more power which I suspect the further throttle smoothing / idle work may address.

So how do you know what your ecu code is? I have gotten the first transmission tsb, but do not have the revised one. Is the first one new enough??

Would the shift maps make a difference in response (how it shifts up/down) if the truck is 2WD and not a 4wd?
