doesn't sound normal or characteristic of 1.03, did you flash the ECU and TCU?

Yes, I flashed both. Albeit I flashed them both right after each other but that shouldn't matter right?

Not going to hurt anything. He said that for ppl who kept complaining about issues and not putting enough miles on each tune b4 reflashing.

I would reflash my truck with both the ECU and TCU files - follow the instructions and shut your truck off after the ECU then ignition back on and write the TCU file and if that doesn’t work out I’d work with Mat over email. I’ve never had the truck act the way you’re describing

I did that the first time. I know the ecu tune went, I'm just not sure about the tcu tune

Yeah, I over simplified my post. It really does depend on the driving condition. In any case, when I'm heavy on the gas it'll downshift and go if it needs to (cruising at low RPMs). If I'm already in the 2500+ RPM range and I'm heavy on the gas it'll usually just hold gear and continue to accelerate. If I'm just cruising and I'm easy on the gas it'll smoothly accelerate and shift up to keep me cruising below 2000 RPM. It does behave a little weird from time to time when I'm cruising at approx 40 mph, but I'll just put my foot into the gas and it'll downshift and I'm good. I'm still over simplifying it, but overall I think the truck shifts pretty good on the tune and definitely way better than stock. However, I'm in Hawaii so I don't really travel at 70 mph......:spy: because that'll be over the speed limit.......but I never have issues hitting/holding my target speeds.

The ability to use 6th gear is the highlight of this tune. However, 6th gear really is not designed to pull/accelerate - it is a double overdrive. My weekend commute is all hills for the first half of the drive. I usually use S6 mode and manually select S5 prior to any inclines and love the response on the 91 tune.
I also think some people are complaining about the truck down shifting when it is in fact just switching between Atkinson and Otto in the same gear. RPM jumps are generally associated with gear shifts and/or acceleration, but in this truck an RPM jump in higher gears is most often just a combustion-type switch.

"RPM jumps are generally associated with gear shifts and/or acceleration, but in this truck an RPM jump in higher gears is most often just a combustion-type switch.".................. Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't a change in rpm, with no change in speed, HAVE to represent a change in gear? I don't understand how what you've described is possible. Can you please elaborate?

    Thanks.................... Frank

I've watched this thread and OV's development since the beginning. Not as critical as others about the truck, but no doubt Toyota goofed on the transmission and choked the engine.

Now after a few revisions and over 100 4 to 5 star reviews, I pulled the trigger on March 15.

Order#2588 and still no shipping status. I saw that FedEx is the bottleneck, but any update OVTune?

It will happen. I experieced the same thing. You have to realize that Matt is extremely slow and promised dates just don't apply but he always comes through.

For those reasons I don' expect the updated tune this weekend. :(

Not exaggerating. Try it. Get on the road, settle in at 50 mph in 6th, and slowly depress the pedal. Take note of how much pedal it takes to get it to either accelerate or downshift.

I drove a 2008 Jetta Wolfsburg for 8 years. I knew EXACTLY the response I’d get from the engine/trans depending on what I did with the pedal. This truck...no clue.

It's been said since before the tune these trucks have a mind of their own. One day, they'll drive normal, then BAM!! limp dick mode the next.
