Well that one is 43 years old. At least it looks like a '75 model.

 

2 separate things being talked about here.
The ticking is injector cleaning cycle
The crickets are the high pressure fuel pump. Annoying, especially in a drive thru but according to Toyota, completely normal. Replacing it sometimes fixes it, sometimes not. It's close to impossible to get the dealer to replace it now though with the amount of complaints that have come from it cause it doesn't affect driveability at all. There is a whole thread on here someplace about it. It affects many different Toyota and Lexus models. Apparently Matt said there is a fix possibly coming for it which would be fantastic but besides the annoying sound, it's not a big issue for me. Many people have reported changing brands of gas can get rid of it but for me personally it took me going to ethanol free gas to make it disappear. Took 2 tanks to get it to go away but it did actually go away. As soon as I went back to regular gas though it came back

 

I am only aware of a fix for lexus vehicles as I got the recall notice. I would *assume* it would trickle down to toyota. maybe, maybe not.

 

If the fix for Lexus is a software fix. and then a software fix for the tacoma , will Toyota flash the ecu/tcu and put a ovtuned truck back to stock while fixing the fuelpump ? Then flashing back to Ovtune would undo the fix from toyota ?

 

The dealer won't even notice its there. No worries.

Lucas upper cylinder lube/fuel additive shuts that noise up. 4 ounces a tank for the last 30k miles on my truck and no HPFP chirp unless I forget to add the Lucas.

 

Mine sounded like it had birds in it for a few thousand miles every time I put a load on it up a hill. By the time I got it to the dealer it went away. Its been 20k miles and never came back

The thing is I have a dedicated OBDII scanner at work but occasionally it would be nice to have one at home. The Son in law asked me yesterday if I could scan his truck but my scan tool was at work. I would rather not have to buy a bluetoooth adapter if I already have a cable

I wouldn't be surprised if you had to pay a similar price for just the obd2 connector to use your existing cable when compared to buying a Bluetooth adapter. The cable is no doubt cheaper than the connector, so idk if you're necessarily saving much cash. Especially since a new unit would likely come with a cable anyhow
