Supposedly the crickets is from the HPFP from the direct injectors when the fuel cavitates with higher alcohol % when the engine is warm. The chirp is a constant once warmed up on my truck.

I believe higher octane fuel has a lower alcohol % but ethanol free gas has shown positive results.

The injectors chirp, they all do. You're listening for it because you've been reading this thread about it.

Either take it to the dealer or just ignore it

Mine used to drive me nuts... running 93 VPower made them a bit quieter for sure. I'm honestly not sure it even does it any more... but now of course I'll become hypersensitive and try to listen for it again. lol

Been a long time since I've been in a drive-thru but that's when it used to embarrass me - got some odd expressions from folks looking at me like "is your truck OK!?"

it was loud, now it's not... go figure.

I already went through 4 tanks of 91 octane gasoline on the 1.03 87 map waiting for this optional release :anonymous:

Finally put my dongle back in the pouch. I want to try the new 91 octane tune :boink:

I've given up trying to fixing it between taking it to the dealer ship saying its normal or just disappears once I pull up. Just figured people would like to know why its chirping.

Funny you say that, it was at the drive thru I noticed it. Guess I am not doing fast food anymore.

Alright, I am done being concerned about it. I will have my friend at Toyota take a look for shits and gigs

I did the Tampa to Orlando run this past Saturday. Since it was Easter weekend and traffic sucks on I4 I took all backroads there. Truck drove and handled great. It amazes me how my truck has power now. I was going 45 and put the pedal down to pull around and pass a slow poke, chirped the tires and was doing 85 before I knew it. On the way home I took the interstate and I love how I can cruise at 80-85 with my foot barely on the pedal scooting past stock Tacos struggling to keep at 75. This tune has totally changed my truck.

Interestingly, a search for this TSB doesn't show anything on TW and I only saw it b/c I went digging. A search for TSBs on our trucks doesn't show this, but on NHTSA site this is listed as a manufacturer communication... Also looked like the (2) fuel pumps on some LC500s are being replaced because the top can become cracked and leak fuel (i.e. fire - i.e. CRITICAL) though this doesn't seem to be flagged as a tacoma issue.

In any case, since this thread is already way off topic waiting for Mat to drop an update to the masses... Does anyone have any details on this TSB to share? I know last year Toyota was replacing them then put a stop out to dealerships basically saying "yes they are noisy, but nothing is wrong with the fuel pumps, stop replacing them under warranty!"

Is the chirping sound different from the Toyota tick? Lol

Yes. The tick is injectors cleaning - normal. The chirp is "normal" but still not right - and while I've gotten used to mine (or blare music louder these days since I upgraded the speakers) if they are now replacing them under warranty I'd like in on the action!
