    Looks like it may be quite a bit of work to trick it I guess. Not sure how that would happen. I'm sure it won't be too long before someone figures out a way though.

    I haven't gotten to the last couple of pages yet, but it looks like people beat me to it. S mode simply changes shift mapping from what I've seen and read. If you want to change throttle response, that's what the ECT PWR button is for. S mode allows you to change the gear limit and have a little more control of when it shifts. It just changes shift maps.

    oh and inb4 someone says "well you have a manual so how would you know?".....I had a 16 auto before this one.

    Yeah I already admitted I goofed. You're exactly right. I inadvertently skipped the ect part in my mind once we started talking about s mode since usually you would use both at the same time. I'm a big dummy.

    Thanks OVT! The additional info regarding elevation changes is very helpful. Couple of unanswered questions regarding the 87 tune;
    • It sounds like the 87 octane tune can take advantage of higher octane. As the 'tuned ECM' it takes advantage of higher octane fuel....then encounters lower octane....will the 'tuned ECM' will quickly pull back timing and other variables to prevent engine damage?
    • Is the 87 tune available? If not, any ideas on eta?
    Thanks again for the support and the additional information!

    Just a thought here on the 87 vs 91 tune.

    OV TUNE, can you use the ECT button to switch from an 87 tune to a 91 tune?

    That way if all someone can find is 87 or worse ,let's say in Baja, the truck can be safely operated without having to load another tune.

    Thanks for the hard work. I'll be buying once sales open back up.

    87 map with improved driveability/sorted shift logic and load factor logic is what I'm holding out for (make it feel faster and more responsive from same power). Gravy if it can "fleet-up" to take advantage of higher octane when needed (towing). It would almost be worth it alone if the truck would stop having auto-shift panic attacks whenever I need to merge onto the highway. I get the whole bragging rights and "Moar Power" philosophy but around here our choices are 87, 89, or 93 octane and the 93 is 50-60 cents more expensive than regular. I've read reports that increasing refinery costs and increasing market demand as more cars require high-test will drive the cost difference further. The traffic most of the time sucks as do the road surfaces, not much chance to hoon a pickup.

    Thanks PB FAB and DontPanic....sounds like I am not the only one with this request. I appreciate the suggestions to carry octane boost but in my case, only finding 87 can happen multiple times on a multistate trip and not sure I want to deal with that hassle. I really like PB FAB's suggestion to have the 87 map be the default and then have the 91 map available via the ECT button.

    OVT, here are the remaining questions regarding the 87 map. Really appreciate your work and responses;

    • It sounds like the 87 octane tune can take advantage of higher octane. As the 'tuned ECM' takes advantage of higher octane fuel....then encounters lower octane....will the 'tuned ECM' will quickly pull back timing and other variables to prevent engine damage?
    • Is the 87 tune available? If not, any ideas on eta?
    • Can the 87 map be loaded as the default and then have the 91 map available via the ECT button?
    Thanks!

    that would be pretty cool if it could be done. what issue
    would you face if you hit the ECT w/ 87 in there?

    Really curious to find out the power difference between 87 tune vs 91? Will it be worth taking a chance?

    Great point Comb and 20tacoma17! Updated the remaining questions for OVT regarding the 87 map;
    • Any testing results from the 87 tune....how does it compare with the 91?
    • Can the 87 map be loaded as the default and then have the 91 map available via the ECT button?
    • Would there be a way to accomplish the 'dual map' for the manual trans trucks?
    Thanks again!

    I haven't driven the truck much today since I installed the tune last night, but there is a considerable difference in drivability. The low to mid dead spot seems to be gone and the drivability of the truck has noticeably improved for "around town" driving. The throttle response is much better. It drives like a truck should drive now. ECT mode is very aggressive now (midrange wrap up is stronger). I have not driven in S mode yet.

    93 octane is typical around here but there is a station with 91 ethanol free at a $1 more per gallon can I use either?

    The tune is adjusted over time based on your installed components. I think it's being forgotten how much we're getting for 800 dollars..

    Okay, my motorcycle does that with a special wideband Lambda (O2) sensor and clever ECU mapping. Haven't read anything like that about this ECU system yet. From what I understand so far about this system is that you buy a kit and you load the fuel maps that where dialed in by the OP on a dyno with a stock truck.

    If we add a performance exhaust with greater flow rates, its unclear if this system will adjust fuel maps for that on the fly or if we need to dyno the truck again and dial in a new fuel map.

    For me the true value of this system is if I can pair it with a performance exhaust and extract even more power from the motor.
