I think this has already been complained about but I'm going to add my $.02.

    Manual transmission truck-
Was towing a 6k load. Getting the truck out of the hole is a real chore. While the clutch is in it simply does not want to rev. What I would be used to doing with a manual with a full load is giving the engine a little steam, before pulling the clutch out while rolling in to the throttle. None of that works on this truck. Its like it knows when the clutch is in and refuses to activate any sort of throttle. Its probably trying to keep the clutch living longer, but its nearly impossible to launch this thing with a full load on even a mild incline. I really just want the throttle and engine response to do what I tell the pedal!

You do know that launching while youre towing is about the WORST thing you could do to your transmission, right? The fact that you have 6K lbs on the tow hitch means that all that weight is pulling down the rear suspension holding it on the road. Youre not going to break traction under those conditions so youre better off easing into both the throttle and clutch simultaneously for the absolute lowest rpm shift into first you can manage. I agree that this truck is nowhere near built to be launched while towing. Mine has a traction bar installed to limit axle wrap for launching and protecting the drivetrain, and I still dont launch mine while im towing. The other thing is excessive wheelspin up a hill while youre towing 6K lbs means youre just as likely to be going backwards as forwards. Youd want a low rpm shift with maximum traction and just let it rev to like 5K in first so you maintain engine power. These motors can take it long as you do the regular maintenance and whatnot.

The goal when launching a vehicle is getting to the point where the wheels just barely break traction, because if you dont it causes a shit ton of stress on all gearbox components because they all get jerked back and forth really, really hard. If you spin the wheels everything is fine because there is no push-pull from the tires hooking on the ground but the tires will heat up quickly and gradually hook up under those conditions which is much easier on your drivetrain.

That would be entirely inconsistent with the goals while towing of maintaining optimal traction and moderate engine power so that you can smoothly tow.

I agree but you lost me at this bold statement... this doesn't quite make sense to me. The goal is to get the vehicle moving as smoothly as possible. Launching a vehicle at the point when wheels just barely break traction is for getting off the line as efficiently(quickly) as possible... not something you should be worried about when towing, especially 6k in a Tacoma.

The fact is, a clutch is a wear item. you WILL wear it out quicker by towing because you'll need to feather the clutch to keep it smooth to reduce stress on non-wearable parts like your axle shafts, ring and pinion, transmission, driveline, etc.

I'm in IT myself for many years, and still am, but one of the best I've seen so far is after a fresh install of windows. It booted back up to do some more work, message appears and I shit you not, "Catastrophic failure." apparently some others have come across it with installing SP1 for certain versions of 7.

I meant just pure launching there, not launching with a trailer. Thats why I put a separate paragraph man  When youre just launching you want to break traction a bit, thats why the last sentence is that a pure launch is not consistent with towing because while towing you want optimal traction and moderate engine power for smooth towing.

His point about terrible throttle response in this truck is still valid though, towing or not. Just getting moving on a steep incline (unloaded) requires a whole different way of doing things than I was used to.. and I've been driving manuals a long time.

Is this fairly easy or complicated to install computer wise for those of us that are AT or slightly below average with a computer?
