Think that might be a placebo effect... idle relearn and all other air and fueling trims relearns go through their learning processes for the first 50 starts regardless of engine temp. How you drive it for the first 50 cranks is how it learns what to expect from then on. That doesn't mean it can't or won't make power when needed or get fuel mileage when needed. Just the difference in a grandpa vs a 16 yr kid's driving style. Both have the potential to do the same thing...

I suppose it could be. I've only put ~100mi on the tune, which I put on when the truck had only ~450mi. Trucks only a week old today, so nowhere near 50 cranks.

With that said, I noticed that my idle is much smoother than it was after the first time I flashed.

My point is that you want to do the initial idle learning on a warm engine. While the engine will probably 'learn' anyway, following the FSM procedure for initial idle learning seems like the fastest way to being happy with the tune.

It will settle in. The next thing you should, if going to bigger tires in the future, is regear that thing!

    4.56s for 33s
    4.88s for 35s

A regear makes 236 hp and trq to the wheels feel like 350+...

So you’re saying you want to cruise at 65-70, in 6th, and ECT power mode activated? Why do you need ECT power mode on at that speed?

    Just turn it off.

I just wish everyone on here would regear and install 1.04... or if it is cheaper, drive or fly to Dothan, AL and I'll let you drive my truck!

Re-gear is what, $1500-2000 all said and done? Then those of us with warranty will very likely lose any coverage related to rear end, drive shaft, axles, etc. No thanks, at least not until the factory warranty is long gone. But by then I'll have either learned to just put up with the thing, or trade it off.

$1500 all said and done doing the labor yourself. The warranty for the rear end then falls on eastcoastgearsupply.com (who is the best supplier of pre built 3rd members). The oil leaks falls on the installer which anyone can do in their front yard, drive ,etc...

Screw the 60k mileage warranty on the axles.. they are covered ubder a different warranry. You still have the engine and trans warranty. They would have to crack the diffs to prove you regeared. If they did that without your authorization they would have no leg to stand on...

You spent $37k+ and a $800 tune to be where you are not counting wheels tires etc.. the only reason you are reading this is because you know there is other things out there. Be a man and take care of your truck the way it needs to be. No one ever complained about a modded Tacoma or pickup until now... just reagear, get the tune and add whatever the F you want from there!

    Agree with this guy!

Regearing is excessive. Get smaller tires, you don’t need 35’s on a 3rd gen taco. Too damn expensive to run rubber like that unless you literally live in or off-road daily is silly.

The tune is awesome with 32” tires and you save money from less gas wasted...what a concept

The autos without a factory locker run the 8.0 inch rear end, 5.29 available for it too!

Got me all hot and bothered, then I realized it’s for the 8.0” non locker. The 8.75” is still stuck with 4.88 evidently.

Nope. Not 65-70. 70-75 in sixth - primarily on the downhill side after a climb.
The last 75 miles of my weekend commute is very hilly. ECT makes this part of the drive much more enjoyable/mindless because:
    (1) D goes into 6th a too early on rolling hills and requires a lot of skinny pedal changes to maintain speed.
    (2) ECT holds gears a little longer and requires less throttle manipulation - it is much more consistent with the elevation changes

Strangely enough a manual shift to S6 or setting cruise control will result in an upshift to 6th with ECT, but while in D it hangs onto 5th.

Very minor in my opinion...just an observation.

My truck goes into 6th at around 65 in ECT with stock gearing and 265/70/17s.

My MPGs are just as good as anyone else's... 17.5 to 18.5 without trying up to 20 when hyper miling. 15.5 when I'm hotrodding it...
