Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Has anyone done 1.04 87 and 92 with a minimum of 300 miles on each? Wondering if I should try 87...

Well, you guys were right. Matt got back to me today, I'm a complete moron and entered in my address wrong. He's shipping it out tomorrow. Stoked to plug that baby in. Maybe I should read up on how to install it before I actually get it...

 

Shouldn’t be a need to reflash at all, definitely not regularly. A couple of the versions have had issues creep up so if you are having issues be sure to let Matt know and provide feedback.

I’ve only flashed when a new version came out or when there was something I didn’t like in the new version (like the throttle response in 1.03b on the MT). Definitely not something you should be doing regularly as it starts calibrations over each time.

 

Hope it comes soon...Just need serial now.

 

Has anyone had trouble with the PCM flash program not recognizing their guardant code dongle? I can't even get it pulled up to ask for the serial...

 

Did you just get your dongle? You need to email Matt. The dongles didn't get preregistered so there's an extra step that needs to be done.

Follow the new instructions he sends you. The video is old.

You email back and forth to get an access key set for the Dongle built. Down load your original flash and trans flash send him data then wait for the tune. Thats where Mine is currently at.

 

Has anyone run tune 1.04 both 87 and 92 yet?

 

Maybe I should try the new version then. I paid another member to help me do it, so I am going to be attempting the new version on my own. I suck at computers but would I be wrong in assuming that I would treat it as if I am installing the flash for the 1st time? Since I will have to go buy a laptop and download all the drivers and stuff. Is this going to work or do I need to have the guy that helped me use his computer again? sorry for the stupid questions, I suck with computer stuff.

Anyone experience the downshift "clunk" on 1.04 91? Happens when engine is cold, AND warm.

I have over 400 miles on 1.04 91, 04B03. When transmission temp cold, within first few miles of commute, clunk is very noticeable coming to a stop. I think it’s the torque converter dis-engaging when downshifting from gear 3 to 2? During downshift from 3 to 2, and 2 to 1, I can feel the torque converter / transmission as it dis-engage and engage while braking. Like someone pushing the truck from behind, then let go, then push again, while braking coming to a stop.

Under easy braking (coming to a stop very gradually), there is no clunk. Under medium to heavy braking (cold or warm transmission temp), the downshift clunk will present itself most of the time. @OVTune, would you like me to log the "clunk" and email it to you? I know you are working on a data logger / viewer, let me know if you have a new process to submit logs.

The clunk was gone with 1.03, rather cold or warm transmission, on 87 and 91 tune. So I believe this issue can be resolved with proper tuning, for MY TRUCK.

Other than the clunk, 1.04 has been great. Loving the throttle tip in, and smooth up shifts.

 

Mine was the opposite. 1.03 had the clunk and 1.04 cured it. 91 tune on both.

 

Since this is your 1st time, yes, treat it as if this the 1st ever install. That will give you some insight as to what you are doing to your truck. After that, future tune loads are pretty painless. If you don't want to spend the money on a laptop I purchased a RCA Windows tablet (RCA Cambio 10.1 - probably listed below in the Products Discussed... window) from Walmart (specifically for OVTune) and it worked great. You just need to get a USB splitter since it has only one standard USB port. Follow the directions fully & carefully and all should go well.

 

Did you like 87? Thinking about switching from 92. Did you notice big MPG difference between the two?

 

Just received my serial #. My chicks got the Taco so I wont be able to attempt flashing the truck till the evening.

I went through the steps and activated the lic key and everything worked. In the instructions on OVtuned.com the interface window has some writing in there but mine doesnt. I tried clicking the dropdown box and nothings in there. Is this normal? Please see pictures. Just want to make sure i'm doing everything correctly.

 

That dropdown only populates after you select the correct ECU or TCU file from the list. Be very diligent in selecting the correct one for whichever you are flashing. The Pcanbus is the ECU. See the PDF instructions for exact direction

 

Have NOT noticed it. 1.04 has been perfect. Literally a oem factory experience so far.. but im sure data logging could make it better like fine tuning those AFRs and stuff
