Good to know... I really love 1.04 91 (with 93 in the tank) and my truck always has run smoother on premium gas. That said I'm about to flash back to stock (ugh!) b/c I need to get my truck in soon for my fuel pump (chirping has returned), rear diff whine, and leaky diff. Then hopefully I can drive this thing til the doors fall off.

the chirping is annoying on premium but not obscene like it is with 87 so I'll be running through this tank, filling up with 87, flashing to stock and letting the dealer do the 2 open TSBs and likely the diff recall my truck isn't eligible for but likely should have been included in....

Well, I do have 93 in the tank (91 isn’t availing my area). Will have to see if I feel the same running 87.

They may reflash for good measure since the fuel injectors are being replaced.

EDIT- if i recall correctly they did this to another forum member with this tune. But they did not get caught, so all is safe

yeah, I know - I've had it in a 3 times for regular service since I've been tuned and haven't worried about it since it's been routine stuff. Since I'll be taking it in for a few things including fuel pump and diff stuff I'll err on the side of caution but you're right its still unlikely to make a difference.

Seems like the 18s are getting better but yeah quality control was pretty iffy first year and a half of production and my 17 was a mid 16 build so... I would have given up on this truck if not for the tune though. Now it’s worth sticking with it and I’m encouraged they finally have TSBs for the howl and chirp.

I had it in last week for HPFP TSB with 91 tune and 93 in the tank, no issues. If your vin is in the range, you should get it

So do i actually need the issue to take it in? Or do i just flap the big tsb paper in their face and say fix it? I rather have it fixed even if i dont have it so it doesnf become an issue down the road

Got my high pressure fuel pump replaced under warranty with tune, no issues. They just replace the pump which takes 2-3hrs. $1300 part tho yikes!

I think you might have meant to quote @riz_atx , but I would get the tsb done. The dealer will need to duplicate the issue, unless you have a good dealer.

I'd say that you're less of a unicorn than you think. Otherwise, you and I would be spewing out rainbows everything we throw up. ;)

Out of the thousands of Tacomas sold each year, the majority of those owners are not on TW. TW is just a fraction of the total number Tacoma owners out there.

Within TW, you rarely do we see posts essentially saying "yup, another day/week without issues." Thank God for that...otherwise things would be boring. As you're aware, we focus on mods instead. lol

Now if their really is a lot of people experiencing those problems, then Toyota would do something about it (like TSB or a recall depending on the potential liability that they might have to face)...

I cant remember if I started the truck after I flashed the TCU or if I just turned the ignition off and on without starting the truck. Instructions say you need to start the truck. I if I want to reflash the TCU or ECU do I need to reload the stock file first or can just reflash the tune?
