This will only make sense to a few of you:

OVTune 1.04 91 is like the Yacht Rock of performance tunes; it's so smooth.

This is why I keep recommending an ECT mode that shifts into 6th at between 65 and 75 mph depending on load.

Is anyone noticing / have a reason why MPGs are better when it’s warm?

I assume the engine warms up faster. But I’d think cooler IATs would be better. Who knows?

I know mesojdm has a electronic auto switch that can keep ect on when starting the truck, but can that be enabled in a tune?

But yeah, i agree, i'd like ECT on to be default (or remembered) upon startup and allow a shift to 6th at 65+ depending on load.

Did about 200 miles of hilly hwy driving this morning. Head wind was decent and with the cruise at 70 i noticed on certain long up hills it couldn't maintain a speed.

Be in 6th at 70 (cruise control)
start up hill, speed begins to slow
    kicks down to 5th
    still slows
    kicks down to 4th
    speeds up to 72ish
    upshift to 5th then 6th

    rinse and repeat.

Wasn't horrible and i know the oem tune is worse on this front but i still think throttle mapping vs load and shift points needs work.

I have 750 miles on the 1.04 91 and no clunks that some were referencing.

Short answer is yes, @mesojdm makes the mod that keep etc on at all times.

Longer answer... It uses an adurino set-up to detect the truck has been turned on and then sets the state of the ECT switch to the last setting you chose. This has nothing to do with the ECU or tune. The mod only "pushes" the ECT button for you each time the truck is started.

I know how meso's device works. What i'm wondering is if in the ECU, can ECT be enabled to remember last setting used vs default to 0 (which is off)? Only OVTune would have access to see if that information is in a table parameter somewhere. Another option is to find that value and default it to 1 or on.

Anything is possible, it's just how much code it will take to make it happen.

I wouldn't hold your breath. There are a handful of ECU / TCU related mods that have been requested, such as the locker anytime mod, but none have been mentioned by Matt since development has started.

My M/T gets better trip average MPG as the weather warms. Quicker warmup is the only thing I can think of.. besides the whole drivetrain/bearings/etc being easier to turn. :notsure:
Oh and no need for defrost either, so the AC compressor isn't sapping power.

I could be completely wrong, but warmer temps means less dense air, which means less fuel is needed to achieve the proper air fuel ratio. This also means less power output in warmer temps.

This is based on my experience from manually controlling the air/fuel mixture in piston aircraft, they climb into less dense air, less fuel is needed.

I only really want ECT active on at highway speeds. I’ve emailed Mat to ask if a custom tune is possible to have shift points for ECT changed with 5th at 55ish and 6th at 65-70.

Personally, I'm not sure that's the best idea because shift points in OVTune are more than just a "shift at x mph". That's what SSP does. Instead, it looks at much more such as the speed, throttle input, load, etc.

He did say that he's planning to offer custom shift points, so I imagine that you'll have to PM him your specific needs once he annouces he has time to do it.

Should have added based on load. What I’d really like is to log my manual shifts with techstream and have mat make my truck shift like me.
