Well, after reflashing the 91 octane tune....yep pretty big difference, faster.

 

Dumb question, but what if you run 87 with the 91 tune?

Has anyone got it tuned without the dongle? I ordered May 10th and I think that is the kit that is coming for me

Down shifting for long climbs is definitely necessary but going maybe just 5mph faster or just getting a little extra to get over a hump isn't what I consider lugging the engine. We aren't trying to WOT the engine in 6th gear, we just want it to hold the a gear with a little more throttle input without it shifting for jesus. I've driven mostly manual cars for most of my life and you do not just shift all over the place to maintain speed unless its a steep grade. Don't get me wrong with the tune the truck is way better about it, but I still want to have that kind of control in S-Mode. Shoot if you think about it, what is the point of S-Mode with are tunes now anyway? With the updated TCU drive acts much better and holds gears longer as is. S-Mode just caps up shifting to what you have selected. So why not just make it hold the gear?

 

I have actually tried to make it hold gears and not downshift. But the problem is that...it's not a true shift mode. It follows the D mode shift pattern and just limits to 4th. It doesn't actually shift when you tell it to, it follows the D mode shift tables (or it's own with identical values) and shifts at the nearest match to it. That's why when you .. say put it in S-mode 2nd gear floor it then upshift it does not shift right away, rather has like a 2000 RPM delay, because it shifts at the next available matching torque / speed value in the D maps. you can tell it to shift up or down all day long it doesn't listen to the shifter it listens to the torque to speed tables which match D mode.


SO....... I can make it not downshift but then you can't downshift D mode anymore lol
