Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Does anyone with the new dongleless setup have the original tune file? Before I flash to 1.04 I wanted to make sure I have a copy of the original. Or can you walk me through how to save it from the truck?

 

Instead of doing “write” do “read”. There’s a video I made on the first post that walks through it.

 

Ok headed down now - didnt see a write or read option in the new flash manager.

Don't think the dongless p5flash.exe has a read option, but I'm pretty sure Mat can send you the original.

 

^ - yea no read option i could find - and also couldnt flash - file corrupt or unsupported - time to go back and read through the thread and see where everyone was experiencing this and the fix - 9 out of 10 times its user error haha #introspection

 

Alright - so my error is when going to flash - identify works perfectly, then go to flash it and select the approproate tune file - 91 - which is a 1.04 tune file ending in .p5f that is 15xx kb (same as the 87 file). Then it immediately errors out.

Things I made sure are correct.

Checked to make sure everything was up to date. Checked the registry file which looks correct (lots of info - not blank).
All accessories are off.
I run Avast AV fully off.
Windows defender - all turned off.
Running p5flash as admin.
Both 87 and 91 tune files give the same error.
Just redownloaded the the flash files and going to try again.

Checked the obdii plug - all pins accounted for.

Any ideas what else could be causing the corrupt or unsupported?

Secondary question - given the errors occurs immediately - if no immediate resolution, can I still drive the truck or stuck till we get it resolved?

Im getting the same. The truck will be ok to drive as no tune file has been transferred to the ecu

 

Are you using PCM flash?

 

No the newer version which is P5Flash.

I'm a dongle-less user.

 

Hmmm...both my 'dongleless' tune files are 2.00 MB (2,097,184 bytes) in size.

 

Have you emailed Mat? I sent him an email today but I know he won’t respond till Monday or later. I guess as long as the truck still drives it’s ok.
