I am very interested in this tune for towing. My travel trailer weighs about 4500 lbs and a little bit more of low end torque would go along way. It tows pretty well once you spin the motor up a bit, but taking off from a dead stop can be a challenge sometimes. Once it's rolling it ok. I was not expecting miracles from this truck with regards to towing, but it seems like Toyota and their stock torque curve really make this truck worse off than it can be. I have a manual with the 4.30 rear end, but it seems to take a bit to get going. It wants to go but the ecu seems to hold it back.

You herd the man, time to order your URD Spec-U exhaust and power extractor pipes, and say screw the cats!!!

Will you look into the ability to disable the 02 CEL code? Or I guess we can start putting pressure on Gadget to get his fix going.

I'm going to ask a question I likely know the answer to. Would upgrading from stock to at least the TRD catback exhaust be enough of an improvement to take advantage of the camshaft adjustments or need to go spec-U, etc.,?

Final piece of the puzzle for logging with proprietary PID support comes in this week.

Once you are able to log data at the lower ranges AKA street tuning, then things should really come together. Every car I have had tuned on a dyno, the street tuning portion takes just as long or longer to get right for the lower RPM ranges, which is where you really drive like 85% of the time.

Im ready to pull the trigger, but I am waiting until a few more things get worked on and perfected. Like you already eluded to the first few revisions will have HUGE changes with things then narrowing from there with smaller tweaks. I dont drive my truck a ton so I can wait until things get a bit more sorted and into the very fine tuning stages before ordering and flashing.

Damn TW always making me spend money. @OVTune I'm currently tossing up the idea of getting this tune instead of 4.88's just to see if it helps with the power at highway speeds. I am running bumpers, bed rack and RTT on 33's. Oh, and mine is a 6MT. 4.88's are coming at some point because I'm upgrading to 35's soon. Just wondering if this will benefit while I'm saving for gears and tires and if the benefits after gears and tires will be even better.

If you are referring to the post by @Ares32, I believe the context of his post was around the feel from stock to ovtune when towing. There have been a few posts from alpha users sharing plentiful gains in the middle and top end when not towing.

Well, as of now its not complete. 4.88s will bring torque through the whole rpm band.
As much weight @Trident904 added to his truck, its something to consider.

I am hoping this tune will delay my "need" or "desire" for regearing as well. I dont tow at all luckily but do have dreams of bigger tires! :) Weight is also a concern

My concern is if 4.88's will be enough with or without the tune when I go to 35's.

The big deal with the MT trucks is the terrible stock throttle response, so yes we will notice a big difference too. HP/Torque gains are icing on that cake.

Edit: The elimination of non-linear power delivery is another thing that we will feel big time.

working on updating any last keys.

for anyone receiving their package with the small black rev2 usb dongle they are ALREADY REGISTERED. SKIP the dongle registration process, just download the software and go straight to reading your vehicles ECU

I am looking forward to being able to participate in datalogging if possible. I know there are improvements to be made in the lower RPM range. After driving this weekend and on my commute today, I feel like there is a slight power loss below 2500RPM. After that it pulls great. I was also playing around with trying to recreate the fluttering. I was able to reproduce it in every gear except 1st with similar load conditions and RPM.

Will the datalogging require us to have additional hardware or just the Tactrix module? I assume you were waiting for something on your end for the "proprietary PID" logging?

OK now WAY more interested... I didn't see anything from @OVTune about throttle response.... I did however read what the OP said about the issue with the engine is the exhaust and being able to breath out better...
I think we argued that a few years ago... when all the new cat backs were coming out and the naysayers where just about everybody. Just sayin.....

There is a big difference. I can now downshift and rev-match and not look like it is my first time driving a manual transmission. My brain had to re-adjust to normal throttle response which didn't take long since I have only had the truck for a month or two.

The tune isn't perfect, but it is the alpha release. Keep in mind this JUST got to people in the last couple weeks. There is much more than OV can do. You have to appreciate the fact that the ECU has been effectively "jailbroken" now and can be manipulated at will. That is a serious accomplishment.

Yes this was in regard to towing 3500+. Without the TT hooked up I smoke Ferraris and Lambos

This right here is enough for me to shell out the clams for this tune.

And, the OP has stated there are major updates coming with 1.02 - not the least of which is playing with intake valve timing.

    WIN - WIN

Edit: TBH, I already purchased it :anonymous:

I disagree. As a tuned M/T the difference is substantial. I am able to hold gear much better now. The extra torque in the mid and high is night and day from stock. Throttle response feels more crisp. Once the fine tuning gets into individual set ups for exhaust and intakes the 3rd gen will be a whole different animal. Monies well spent.

Friendly reminder for anyone following this thread, if you receive your kit with a Rev2 Dongle (like the image above) you can download all the drivers, SKIP the registration process and go straight to using PCMFlash with your Truck / reading the ECU

    thanks
