Sorry if I haven't got back to people yet. Thunderstorms on and off all week here, expected through the weekend. Internet is spotty.

Anyways I have some 1.05 info to share. Stuck with dysfunctional Internet gave me more disassembly time inside the ecu. Some new controls have been found.

These trucks are weird and variable... 1.04 eradicated any clunks whatsoever for me. I haven’t felt a clunk or flare or jerk of any sort in 3,500 miles

I am 99.99% sure the clunk is related 2-1 to when the truck downshifts... but why it only happens on some is the unknown part.

improvement for downshifting 5-4-3-2-1 is already an improvement for 1.05 along with finally unleashing the throttle control on this car

Agree, that’s what it felt like stock and on some earlier versions of the tune. Predictably clunk on stop, generally when on a cold start and coming to the first stop or two of the drive. Doesn’t happen anymore on 1.04 (thank you) and 1.04 also eliminated the need for me to be as ready on the brake when pulling into my garage. No more surging that makes me feel like I’m seconds from taking out my water heater!

Looking forward to the 1.05 details :)

Sounds great! I would say downshifting and throttle control, esp in 5 and 6 are the only areas that I notice could use some improvement. Keep up the good work! All the effort is appreciated.

Sounds exciting. I'm guessing you've probably also found the culprit of it hanging on to 3rd gear under load on a hill when you try to get it to upshift to 4th? I'll await details but honestly that is the only weird thing I experience for the most part. I know you'll continue to further smooth out all the shifts though. Pretty damn good so far though, will be fun to see what 1.05 holds in store!!

Clunk was a rare occurrence for me, haven't had it since doing a complete trans flush around 30k miles or going to 1.04 a couple of weeks after that (gave it a couple of weeks between, so I could check for differences in shifting before going to 1.04 and not knowing if a difference was from fluid change or flash)

Is there a DIY written up on here for that? Transmission flush.

1.04, which was my first flash is so much better than stock it is shocking. Can't wait for 1.05 to arrive. Send it! Thanks again Mat !

No "clunck" for me - wonder that the weak stock rear leaf springs may be allowing some axel wrap with stout breaking = clunck??

I'm fully stock (I am actually broke :annoyed:, but saving up for the tune and other mods), and I occasionally get the clunk. As someone else mentioned, it only happens when I come to an abrupt stop. Hope that helps.

Been following this thread and others on the subject since I joined.

Posted once how you get attacked if you even suggest this truck has a drivability issue.

@OVTune Matt sir what is your thoughts on why Toyota would purposely design a truck to response this way?

The dealerships response is always “it’s by design” drives me crazy.

I want this tune and will get it just have Home repairs demanding my wallets attention first.

Stock vehicle has the clunk when letting off the accelerator and coming to a stop, don't see the big deal if OV has it as well.

Unleashing the throttle control sounds promising!

I’m wondering the same thing about 3rd as mentioned here. This also happens on 4th when downshifting on the highway and it will hold it longer than it seems like it should. Have to almost let go of the accelerator to get it to go into 5th. If it gets all the way 6th, then it usually downshifts to 4th and you are back into that limbo.

ALso, cruise control gets 1-2 mpg less than manual control and that’s annoying. I live in Austin and it’s 6-7 hours to drive out of Texas (to the mountains usually). Cruise control is essential but not at the cost of 2 mpgs. Driving out of texas is the worst part of living here. Cruise would make that better :)
