So as GoldenBrew noted and put a link to the check your fluid level notes, that works for topping off or a little change. I opted to do a complete drain and refill basically using this video as a quide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF1EQc4A0Hk
Also had read the notes from the Tacoma service manual, it was a pretty straight forward job, just had my wife to give me a hand when it was time to start and stop the truck, and I used Techstream to watch the Trans temperature, although some folks have a ScanGauge.
As a side note, I've not had any problems at all after following pretty much the way it was presented in the youtube video. Only difference my fill plug is opposite side than his

Did you measure the amount of fluid drained and amount replaced? Just wondering if you were low, and how much to fill with complete drain/fill option. Would think trucks with same options (auto/trans cooler-tow package,...) should be able to simply do a drain and fill based on measured results. ???

I did measure both drain and refill with one caveat. Used two clean 5 quart marked pails (one for drain, one for fill) and a 5 gallon marked for overall drain. Mine was only exhibiting minor characteristics of being low, so now for the caveat, when I reached the point of exchanging the fluid (for my truck 10.7 quarts), I added another 1.5 quarts (overfilled) and started the truck long enough to circulate through the gears, then open the overflow and drained out about a quart until what was coming out of the overflow was down to a thin stream, closed it up, fired the truck up and run through the gears and watched the temperature in Techstream until it hit the temperature range, then shut the truck off, quickly opened the overflow and only drained out 6 - 8 ounces. So giving myself a little wiggle room, I purposely overfilled to make sure I got a complete fluid exchange, and given the little amounts in the buckets of the drain and fill buckets, I'd say a guess probably 4 - 6 ounces low originally.

Nah, we just think there could be something hiding underneath if someone prefers the stock tune over any OVtune...

I mean I won't say the truck is 100% perfect, but then again every vehicle I've had STOCK had its quirks. A Rav4 that would drop to 3rd harshly when in cruise and sounded like the trans would fall apart. it didn't. I drove it to 200k and it's still on the road today with over 250k (sold to friend). An Xterra that flared in 4th all the time unpredictably. It was totaled in an accident but had 175k with no issues whatsoever.

So yes, my OVTuned truck runs 150% better in almost every single way vs. stock. Are there a couple of minor tweaks I'm excited to see come in the future, yes. Are they anything beyond the quirks most of the best built vehicles will have, no. But I am thankful every time I get in my truck that I don't have to put up with that garbage Toyota called a "calibration" :)

did you ever get your OVTune sold?

I'd do the math but pretty sure I would make a bad guess. So added total of 12.2 quarts and drained 1.25?? So fluid volume left 10.7 quarts???

Is your truck an OR 4x4 with tow package?? Auto ??

EDIT: I will be taking this conversation to the 3rd gen transmission thread = Back on track here for OVTUNE !!!

I just flashed V1.04. How do the updates work? Does Matt just send out the new updates or do I need to ask for it?

Hey mat, if you could give a ballpark number on what the turbo thing would cost, that'd be great so I know how much money to hoard for the next few months

@OVTune will 1.05 work well for people with a little armor and slightly bigger tires? I like 1.03 over 1.04 for the sole reason that my truck feels more nimble and lighter when driving or towing. I’ve driven both files for over 1000 miles each and 1.03 has me for now because it just drives with what feels like more power. Is one tune healthier for the vehicle over another?

I'd consider it a greatly enhanced version of 1.03. lower RPM (1200 and up) will be a very big improvement.
but it's not done yet. No eta on release yet. 1.05 will come with new version TCU file.

Regarding turbo kit price I don't know yet sorry. I'd say expect around what other kits would cost. Ball park 5-6k

VERY much looking forward to 1.05 based on your comments previously :)

I would still like to get the lower RPM torque a bit higher and it sounds like you have it nailed down.

Seriously Matt, well done and thank you for your efforts! This truck is an absolute dream compared to stock.
