Turbo Diesel and Turbo Petro are not the same platform.

MR2 turbo was killed in 1995. Supra was killed in 1998. I don't think the Celica all-trac turbo was released here in the states, but I could be wrong.

That's ancient history to me, and I don't think it's a reflection of post-2000 Toyota.

Toyota is trying to change the boring image it's had for the last 18 years. Maybe post 2020 Toyota will be a different company.

However, if they start to go the Ford way, and just put out new unproven tech that literally blows up every year. I doubt I will continue to buy Toyota products.

Toyota is bringing back the Supra Turbo next year. Celica turbo was sold here. Toyota is not like Ford, they will research and test before they launch new engines. Which is why they are never the first to come out with new technology. I would rather have the 3.5 V6 turbo from Lexus then the 3.5 V6 turbo from Ford.

Woah woah woah, lets not oversell toyotas R&D here. I mean this is the OVTUNE Alpha thread. Which we are all reading because toyota did such a good job researching and testing this engine before they launched it right? And cause they admitted their faults and fixed them.... right?

Toyota definitely didn't just repackage and retard a lexus engine for the new Tacoma... oh wait, yeah, they kinda did. Seeing as how the tacoma has the lowest hp rating of any available vehicle with this engine in it.

Doesnt matter if its Ford, or Lexus or Toyota. Shit slips by testing, deadlines(and bottomlines) have to be met, people make mistakes. You got Rav4's with eco mode torque converters so f-ed they feel like the wheel is gonna fall off(and 4cyl engines that sip oil like college students drink coffee). RX350 Hybrids that drain batteries if they sit for more than a week. F-150s that have 2 piece spark plugs that break off in the heads. Ecoboosts that blow intercoolers,

shit happens. Toyota is the only worldwide manufacturer that doesnt have turbo options in its regular vehicle lineup. Will they? Probably. lets face facts, toyota engines in NA are trickle downs from Lexus.

Whatever happens at Lexus, Toyota will eat up the leftovers.

This diversion belongs on another thread....

Weird. They are trolling with an old picture - that’s Jillian’s truck. She has had a 30” rigid bar up front for a while now so like summer 2017 time frame for that pic.

I was told about a new TSB ECU update for the autos coming out soon to further improve shifting, but was not given exact details.

tickets for new orders sent out (with setup instructions)
bear with me while I get all caught up.
tomorrow I will knock out what I can for tune updates

it does happen on some trucks. Pinpointing the exact cause has been quite difficult. I'd say out of the 750+ tuned, I've had reports by less than 15 unique/different people.

The idle only "spikes" when the ac compressor turns on. The compressor should not be running all the time even on your house ac. It should only be on when it needs to be

Question, should we detune and have Toyota's latest flash? Or rather are you going to overlay what you have already done on the current tunes on the latest versiom from Toyota?

This doesn't happen on the tune that I can tell - though there can still be some oddities when the TC locks at times, I do definitely recall this being one of the annoying issues that initially drove me to the tune to begin with. You are in 4th and punch it and it doesn't do anything then the TC locks and it surges and you look like a jackass who just floored it.

I pulled the TSB down from my TIS account for you guys to see the full details.

Not if your state has strict emission regulations. :/ Needs to be carb compliant for my state unfortunately.

That is where a remote mount system would be of benefit. Have a built in bypass for the Turbo and have the ability to unbolt the system. So long as you don't have issues with AF ratios and check engine lights, you would be good.

@OVTune I know you're getting back into the states and the new East Coast locale but one thing we haven't heard much about lately is the potential intake and/or exhaust options you're planning on. I am not likely to be a FI customer in the near-term but I am in the market for an exhaust and have been holding out until I see what you come up with!

Going through the checkout process online for tunes, i don't see anywhere to specify that im running stock tires. Will my shift tables be for stock or larger tires?

Custom tuning is not available yet. It seems like it will be shortly. The R&D vehicle has larger tires, but I'm not sure on the exact size.

On the stock tune I had surging when turning the wheel on a cold engine, on heavier acceleration (not WOT), and when the AC compressor turned on. With the tune, the only surge that is completely eliminated is the surge on heavier acceleration. The "power band" is smoothed out.
