Also an IT guy, I have not used a 3rd party anti virus since 2010. Microsoft Security Essentials, now called Windows Defender, has been the only AV I have ran. Anything else is a waste of money. During the past 8.5 yrs, I have NEVER had any virus issues. So uninstall and delete all remnants of Anything other than Win Defender, make an exclusion for pcmflash.exe, and rock on!

Security Essentials I wasn't a fan of but defender works fairly well now, they've done a decent job

o_O Then you're not doing it right...

Even a garbage AV solution is better than nothing! Especially for someone who is still using an older operating system (which sadly, much of the population still does)...

This is probably what @acemastr is trying to get at...but instead he is skewing it so that the average Joe would totally screw themselves by uninstalling a perfectly viable product and exposing their system.

And as an "IT guy" for 14-15 years, I know my way around these things as well. If you have been using Windows AV products for the past 8 years, you should know that 8 years is a looooong time in the computer industry. Windows Defender is a great and simple solution that is now built in. It's a perfect solution for the average Joe now (cheap and effective). But the others are not a joke to be dismissed. It's not like they have been doing nothing...especially when AV is their bread-and-butter. A lot has changed for them too. Norton especially has come back big in the past 4-5 years. Why do you think they won out with the DoD as the primary AV solution? I'll give you a hint, money was not a factor.

And as you all should know, AV is just 1 layer in the overall picture...(defense-in-depth)

If you have McAfee installed, it likely means that you are not using Windows Defender anymore (it gets turned off when another AV is being installed).

No, you do not have to disable the firewall, but doing so will help eliminate another variable.

The first thing you should do is ensure your folder is exempt from all AV scans. It's been many years since I've used Mcafee, so I won't be of any help, but I'm sure there are plenty of videos out on the web that can show you how to do that.

I just made a 600+ mile road trip with 1.04 and I thought I'd add my observations. I bought ovtune primarily to help with the constant shifting while on the interstate with cruise control and hopefully improve mpg a little.

At 70mph and under it definitely feels like it shifts less. I do notice that it would stay in 5th a lot longer. Sometimes unnecessarily long. I'm on a flat road cruising at 70 and I'm expecting it to go into 6th but it just hangs on 5th.

Above 70, cruising at 75 and especially at 80 and 85mph, it would still down shift to 4th, 5th, 6th over and over. At times while going up a slight incline, it would drop to 4th, speed up to 85, shift to 5th while still on the incline, then back to 4th, back to 5th and so on.

I do enjoy ovtune while driving in the city and at speeds below 70mph. I guess our Tacomas just don't have the low end to comfortably cruise at higher speeds.

BTW, here are the mpgs I saw while cruising at certain speeds.

    60-65: 23+mpg
    70: 21-22mpg
    75: 19-20mpg
    80: 17mpg
    85: 16mpg
Avg mpg for the trip was 18.9mpg

I was mostly traveling on i-10 where the speed limit ranged from 60-80mph.

Looking forward to 1.05 and seeing if that helps any.

you need to uncompress the file. I can finish this with you by teamviewer tomorrow or when you're free.

It’s not that big of a deal. My truck did it a couple time on 103 and once on 104. Almost seems like it needed to learn that portion of the wide open throttle. Since then, thousands of miles, it has not done it.

I went from Houston to Tampa and got over 21mpg on the 87 tune. Coming back it was closer to 20 if my memory serves me right. I was keeping it at 74mph most of the time. It's mostly flat down there though.

The DOD uses HBSS by McAfee... at one point a few years back yes, it was Symantec/ Norton but McAfee has been in the game at least 5 years
