Agree 100%, -10/+10 is usually the benchmark for what the ecu can easily compensate for adjustment. Is it idea, i would say no. I am anal though and like to be closer to 0 when i can even though its almost impossible to be always be @0. I have always personally used MAF tables for adjustment. They use stock mass air flow sensor over a voltage range of zero to 4, 5, etc volts depending on application. These tables represent the mass of fuel to the amount of air moving through the intake. The values allow the ecu to properly calculate the mass of fuel it needs to inject or remove to get the A/F value dictated in the Primary fuel table for closed loop WOT control targets. Ecu airflow adjustments table is usually based off the mass airflow, GS per second. The data in the MAF tables represent air in grams per second to voltage. Usually but no always this is the only table for the purpose of adjusting MAF cal values for intakes. Once you hit larger intake diameters then yes the calculation across the entire table needs to be scaled and then re adjusted and fine tuned based on air/fuel.

Correction, i ment to say MAF tables not fuel trim table.

    so will you
So after you get it tuned to compensate for the intake will you get more power over stock air box?

Yes. Any time you can add more mass air flow and more fuel you gain more power. All in the tune...

    Nice!
Do you have the aem air filter size or part number ? I was thinking of getting the same AF Dynamica set up to save money over the K&N

Unfortunately no part #. I had a few extra dryflows from old intake setups and found one that fit perfect. Pure luck haha. I will pull a measurement next time im in the bay.

So after a day of driving around town, on the freeway, in the city stop and go I have some impressions of the tune.

To be quite honest the first few miles you could have fooled me, I even considered placebo effect maybe. Then after awhile I started to notice that I wasn't pushing down on the gas as much to get the acceleration I got from before the tune. That's about it. No huge changes. I'm not totally in tune with the shift points like some are but I did feel that the truck did seen to hold a gear longer. If I didn't install the tune myself I probably wouldn't have noticed any difference. It's not more power really, just less gas pedal to get the power.

My biggest thing was that I liked the way power kicked in around 4k before the tune and I expected that to even out. Now it seems to maybe kick in around 3.5k but still after 4k the power feels good. If there was only a way to boost power under 3k this would be a fantastic truck. It feels like a 4 banger under 2.5k.

Then I pushed the ECT button. That's when I could totally feel a difference. Very responsive throttle. I haven't really used that button before because I'm not fooled thinking this truck is a power house and was under the impression that button was just a gimmick. I bought the tacoma for off-road driving and you don't need gobs of power for the slow speed trail driving I like to do and a button that keeps you higher in the rpm range isn't what I want. Using ECT is where I see a difference with their tune though.

Is this tune worth the money? It's not like adding a turbo. There is not a big power gain especially lower in the rpm range where I was hoping for. I know it's a little v6 but I'm still optimistic.I look forward to version 1.02 and their tranny update. Until then I'm not sure I would say "dude you gotta get it". Maybe after those updates.

Thanks for posting the data. A bit concerning since I'm running a TRD Pro CAI and catback. BTW, how did you run the datalog? I would like to do the same after I upload my tune. Thanks.

I haven't ran datalog. I'll have to look into this. My truck is stock for all the engine stuff. I spent all my monies on skidplates and lift kit waiting for this tune.

Hopefully aggressive throttle tip in/"cam" factor comes back out as this tune moves out of "alpha". You see it all the time in the "Import Scene" tunes. Lots of throttle tip-in to make a vehicle feel faster to the customer. This can be done quickly without a lot of effort. Tunes like that will actually perform worse in track settings as abrupt throttle will "upset" a car and make weight transfer more difficult to control.

I know exactly what you mean, but its apples to oranges... that really only comes into play on the track, or driving at or near the limits of the suspension. Who is going to be doing that in their Tacoma? Yes off road throttle control to not upset the suspension comes into play as well, but that's not about being fast just smooth and much lower in the power band where there's less power.

Personally I wouldnt run any tune without data logging and seeing exactly how my engine is running, engines are expensive. At the moment Im using the simple Torque app to monitor and datalog. Wish I could monitor more parameters, knock, fuel pressure, etc. OVtune is supposedly working on datalogging ability but I guess they are still figuring it out.

Thanks for posting, this is the sort of info I'm looking for. I think this motor makes plenty of power...I don't need more power. I'm just not digging the throttle response, low end power delivery, transmission shift points and the MPG. I'm not convinced it's an architectural issue with the motor/tranny (like the people who claim it's "not a truck motor") and I'm really crossing my fingers OV (or someone else) can sort this out in the next few months or I'm going to be trading in a very low mileage Tacoma on a Tundra or similar.

The original Tacoma he tuned had a TRD intake and exhaust as I recall. You're fine.

is that right? i missed that. i have both but i also feel there's quite a bit of optimization available. up till now i figured it could be the intake/exhaust difference, but apparently not.

So I keep hearing people talk about the ecu "learning" and I wonder how this plays into how the tune will work. Is learning just a subtle thing that happens or after a certain about of time will I notice the truck behaving different than my first day of driving with the new tune. I used about a half a tank of gas yesterday.

it wont behave wildly different or anything no, but after all the learning phase for fuel and ignition the ecu will be able to run the most optimal settings.

our Tacoma logger is almost complete as well. Also, we are considering...*something*... that a lot of toyota people are starting to request. I just talked about this a few days ago too lol
