I'm quite certain if I made a tune that stays in 4th until 70mph everyone will hate it

There are a couple of us with the same symptoms. I my case, it didn't show up until quite a while after flashing with 1.04A 91(M/T).

It's possible you got bad gas, but I can tell you my symptoms haven't changed across multiple fill ups. More pronounced stutter feeling when the engine is "cold".

    No codes, co CEL.

Do you know if your truck is listed under the latest TSB?
Not saying that is the cause.
Hard to tell at such low rpm, first time ever happened or first time ever driving at that low rpm?

5th at 70 hahaha please god no. I'm not understanding how people can deal with the truck screaming along at 2k rpm+ at lower speeds, it's just noisy and jerky with the off/on throttle, must be a tire thing.

I can confirm that under certain conditions (low rpm) and a very light throttle my truck feels like it misses, can almost confuse it with bumps in the road but you can tell. Doesn't throw a code so unlikely to be a problem and only occurs VERY rarely. Stock was so long ago I can't even remember it

5th at 70 sounds like the stock tune. Hell most of the time I was running 4th at 70+ on my auto. It was terrible

I've felt something similar, around 1000 rpm, at beginning of my commute when engine is still warming up.

This is pure speculation, could it be the Atkinson cycle switching on and off at such low RPM and light throttle?

Unlikely, Atkinson is just valve timing, it uses it for a wide band of rpm I believe then goes back to Otto for power

Not sure about the TSB it's a 2018. Just started happening recently. I'm a former BMW technician so I'd like to think I had a pretty good understanding of modern engines and electronics so I would say it almost feels like the engine is misfiring and pulling timing of ignition or valves to fix itself but only at very low RPM's.

I know. I was just making the point that we don't have 91 so to use 1.05 I wouldn't have to go looking for 93.

I had a similar issue on my stock '17... but when I put in 93 octane it didn't happen anymore.

I still have low-load ignition instability that I can see in my OBD2 data which occurs stock as well as tuned. My truck will predictably misfire 5-10 times on the first trip of the morning and sporadically 3-5 times thereafter throughout subsequent trips. Always at low load <1200 rpms generally such as when decelerating or idling. I rarely, if ever, feel the misfires as they tend to be random, single cylinder misfires. Never any codes (needs to misfire 35 times in a tight sequence to CEL) and the truck is running terrific otherwise. I have replaced my CKP/CPS before folks chime in and suggest that to fix it ;)

I even had toyota corp look at my logs at one point and while it was acknowledged the misfires were "odd" I was assured that low volume of random misfires isn't harming anything... and based on other data I have including catalyst monitors I have no immediate reason to disagree. I wish it didn't misfire like it does and who knows maybe there are changes in the 1.05/new TSB that will alleviate this. I've stopped being so neurotic about it and just generally enjoy driving the 1.04, smooth-running truck these days!

First impressions on 1.04 / 87 octane file is wow!

Can only imagine the power from 1.05 and 93. Might fill up with 93 and try out the 91 file. Will I notice a huge difference, i.e. will it be worth the extra $9-$10 to fill up?

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.
I have been trying to think of a way to mitigate the potential problems that could arise if 87 octane gas is put in my truck while I am running the 91 octane tune. I have already ordered "Premium Gas Only" decals for the cap. Though there is always the possibility that I might make a mistake or someone else who is filling up my truck.

Is it feasible to use an Octane booster to raise the octane rating of 87 to at or above 91 octane? If it is it seems reasonable to carry a few bottles of it in my truck in case it is needed. Does anyone have experence with an octane booster? Or is it just a BS marketing gimmick? Anyone have a recommended brand they use?

91 is pretty expensive in my area, I flashed it for the summer for all my trips, for the extra kick on the highway when it's loaded. I'll flash back to 87 after the summer . It only makes about a 2mpg difference for me which I can't justify if I'm just commuting everyday. It was worth it for the summer trips so far though.

This could be debated for hours but no, they don't work, don't bother with them
