I can confirm for myself that it's fine to flash the new tsb over 1.04.

I'm glad I did personally, my truck was getting rather jerky and had rough shifts on 1.04. A hard downshift still causes some weird shift lug-lug-lug feel regardless of the tune, but overall the shifting and throttle response feels much better on the new tsb than it ever did on stock before (although who knows if it'll last?). No idea if it matters, but I figured I'd also note that I was running the 91 octane tune and I live in Colorado (high elevation). I'll be running this new tsb for sure until the much anticipated 1.05 launch.

Please dont leave 1.03 out. Not doubting 1.05 but if u planned on releasing 1.04 on any ECU version (latest version) atleast start from 1.03.

What would you say if I wanted to swap my 04B10 for a 04B11/12?

I'd like to know what Toyota would replace my ECU with if it blew up...

Still no ECU flash update TSBs for M/T trucks FFS

If you ran the file on a laptop without TS installed, windows will not recognize it. CUW is not an executable file. It'll only work with TS installed and when you click to open, it'll launch the update wizard that is part of TS and not launch the whole TS application.

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.
That seems like a complicated solution. I purchased some octane booster and keep a couple bottles in my truck. This is in case I mistakenly put 87 octane in with the 91 octane tune. I know octane boosters are frowned upon by most but I just needed something that would prevent or reduce per-detonation.

I’m about to go in for service, thinking about having them flash the new TSB. I see people are just letting them flash right over OVTUNEs files, so what happens with the TCU? Does Toyota flash both ECU AND TCU on the TSB update?

I usually carry my laptop and tactrix with me if I am on a trip and especially if we are going to any place with elevation. Ive flashed my truck a the gas station. I dont see how anyone would put in the wrong octane after they themselves flashed the truck. I dont let others drive my truck so no issues with them fueling it up with the wrong fuel

And just to confirm, no need to flash either TCU OR ECU back to stock before having them perform the update?

Toyota has finally done some good work with their OEM calibration. No doubt the shift patterns will degrade with city driving over the near-term but even if an owner had to revert to S-mode I would describe the new calibration as "drivable"

I have flashed my truck to stock a couple of times in the last year (and driven it for a total of 2 days in the last 365ish) but after a single trip I was losing my mind as the dead pedal, bogging, slow, heavy mess that was the stock calibration... This morning, not quite that bad. Do I prefer the throttle, power, and overall snappy response of OVTune? Of course (and look forward to returning soon).

The shifts themselves feel very different. For one I can see one deficiency in OVTune vs. Toyota (now anyway) in terms of the TC lock. Specifically one common issue I've heard and experienced myself is some challenging shift patterns when climbing hills. I noticed the TC remained unlocked and at one point the TC was unlocked and I was in 5th and comfortably climbing a relatively steep hill at a lower (~30 mph) speed. At another point when I needed to press for more throttle it dropped to 4th (still unlocked TC) but the jump between the 2 gears felt barely noticeable it was so smooth.

Yes it does race up to 3rd quickly but it has spaced out 3-4 and 4-5 shift points and when they do happen it seems to be smoother. I've thought for awhile that the tune's locking behavior can be abrupt at times and when climbing hills especially I've commented that it feels like the engine needs the TC unlocked (or half lock?) to maintain power in a given gear. Seems to be the case given how I see the new Toyota calibration behaving.

Dead pedal feel is gone and there aren't as many dead spots in the throttle as there were previously. I still felt the need to put it in ECT (which I generally don't do any longer with the tune) to merge onto 75 mph traffic. And while there isn't that dead pedal feeling the instant power isn't there either so it's not nearly as fun and nimble to drive. MPGs were about the same.

Never felt that dreaded bogging feeling nor did I feel I was dancing with the skinny pedal to keep it in the right gear. Likely this will degrade with the torque learning but at least initially it was a positive move.

I am even more excited about 1.05 now given the integration of many of what I view as very positive changes to the calibration combined with the VVT, throttle, ignition, etc., the tune brings to the table. But, I suspect folks won't HATE their trucks quite so much (untuned) if they get this update. It's a step in the right direction from Toyota

Now we wait for the 1.05 fun!

While it is unlikely to happen, putting 87 octane in while on the 91 tune, it is still something that should be taken into consideration. For my situation two bottles of octane booster are easier to carry 100% than

    Well written, sir!

It's too bad Toyota didn't do this right out of the gate. It's also too bad that there's no relief for stock M/T drivers currently.

This is also good info for those other threads dealing with the latest TSBs. Are you thinking of posting this in them too?

So do you think Toyota’s updates is better than OVT 1.03 which is what I’m on now. I hated 1.04. Would you guys suggest I just keep waiting all together, and keep driving 1.03 or go ahead and get the TSB, and wait for 1.05.

I wasn't a fan of 1.03 due to the harsh tip in of the throttle. It was way too much with 4.88 gears. I'd say, get Toyota's flash and if you don't like it, wait for 1.05...

If you preferred 1.03 to 1.04 you may be miserable with the TSB. you'll probably see shifting improvements but 1.03 had a much more aggressive tip-in than 1.04 and 1.04 had a much more aggressive tip-in than the new Toyota calibration. Flash at your own risk...
