    Hello Doug!

I spoke with you about a year ago concerning my sorry ass leafs, and ending up reading the whole tread. I didn't have money at the time to do it, but kept it in mind… until i did my clutch on monday and crawled under there to see two broken leafs on one side and one broken on the other!!!!

So I went junk yard shopping and came up with a beautiful set from a 2005 ford sportage i think. They had a little more arch and are thicker (same width) as the taco's helpers. Ended up un bolting all of the leafs, mocked em up and they were close enough (within an inch) of the original taco helper leafs lengths. So without any cutting or drilling, I bolted em all together and frigging love it!!!!! Best mod I have ever done. I can now take dirt roads 10-20 mph faster without bottoming out as I did before. I should have measured before and after, but I think I got 3" of lift after settling for three days. I am lifted 2" up front and I have an inch rake right now. Thanks again for all the info, I will post some pics in the am if you're interested!

Here you go: old leafs on the bottom of the first photo, donors just above em. Then installed for the last two photos. Hopefully they settle a little more. But I wanted an 1" rake as I have a topper with luggage rack and shit ton o' gear.

    Thanks again!

Whew! 128 pages of reading, and I'm finally done. Massive thanks to OMD and everybody else that contributes here.

Got a little time at the pick'n'pull (haven't done that in 25 years -- forgot how much fun that was) and found some superclean springs off a '90 Suburban. (Axle was already gone, so was pretty convenient.)

I'm driving a '14 access cab, 2.7, rwd, 10,000 on the clock, and pretty much as basic as they come. I'm hauling work tools and a cap to the tune of about 700 pounds in the bed all the time, so I'm looking for some support for my sagging ass. Since I'm lazy, it's rare that I unload the bed, but that has to happen once in a while. I don't do any offroad. (Sad, huh?) I'm thinking 2 donor leafs plus the stock top leaf with the hangers, no overload.

So, 'cause I'm nervous about taking my work vehicle out of commission *and* want to save maximum bucks (did I mention I was a cheapskate?), I've got a few questions.

    - what amount of lift is going to force me to get longer brake lines and/or shocks? (In other words, if I manage to keep the lift under, say, 2", can I get away without new stuff?) Or am I just being stupid and should pay the bucks now to avoid trouble later?

    - since the springs are 2.5", I've got to grind off a bit on both sides. Does a flap wheel work way better than a plain old metal grinding wheel? (I've got plain grinding wheels kicking around, but no experience with flap wheels.)

    Thanks in advance.

As I understand it, you are good at 2+" lift if you don't wheel. You can get away with relocating the brake line mounts to get a different angle on them. If you flex quite a bit, that's where you really should go longer. Just bought a set on here from OCTaco that comes recommended, and a good deal for about $100 for all 4.

I also squeak when I walk. Takes a lot for me to spend anything that isn't a "great deal". Of course on TW there is always a great deal going on, so I'm broke again :)

Yeah I usually don't look for years later than 1980's because of width changes GM made in some of the 90's but not a deal killer just more work, that said you found a very nice/evenly ARC'd set of springs.

Oh you'll love the flap wheel, much quicker than a standard grinding wheel which is good because you def have some material to remove..

Ok, if your intent is to use the main leaf (replacing your stock main) its not going to happen for 2 reasons, first is width (it could be done if grinding to OEM specs) but mostly is length, it'd have to be dead nutts equal to the stock Toyota spring, if you meant just knocking off the eyeletts & using it into your existing pack well then cut away...:)

If you're lift is 2" or less you shouldn't have any issues with brakeline length, but you may want to consider upgrading shocks for better dampening to compensate for the added spring rate....good job so far...:thumbsup:

Sorry, my bad with confusing the issue. I plan to use the stock Toyota main and stick Chevy leafs underneath. And thanks for the flap wheel tip. Will post more pics as this thing unfolds.
