Just went to a junkyard. Here are the prospects. Didn't have time to pull anything.

You drove all the way out there and didn't get any? What a bummer. Looks to me if all you are looking for is a single leaf, you can get enough out of that big arc for both trucks.

I'll go back out with Jon and make him do the work. We just didn't have the time to pull both pairs I was looking for.

Just a reminder that I've got leaves harvested from a Suburban (pic on post 2545, page 128) that I can't use. If you're in the SF Bay Area and show up with a sixpack, these are torn apart, mostly painted, and ready to go.

what an epic thread! thank you to Doug and everyone else who contributed to this! i read every post, and thought i had a pretty good handle on what i need to do to complete this mod. i managed to find a donor set today. i'm a little bummed though because i must not have measured very carefully when i was at the JY. i swear they were 2 3/8" wide in the yard but damn if they aren't 2 1/2" wide now that i'm home. i have a '13 and it seems like this is not a deal breaker, just some extra work to make a clean install. here's a pic of the donor packs from a '90 chevy 1500 4x4:

    photo1_zpsaab94c09_5cc354620ef0d13c5f6a37ea73f923743ba22b3f.jpg

    photo2_zps65811e50_7965a2a980762ce79d5380c8bc0ee84ea5eaf6be.jpg

they seem like they have a pretty even arc to them. i have the 3 leaf plus overload from factory. it's never had any load in the bed and only 22k miles on the truck. my plan was to install the eibach springs up front with 5100's set at .85 which should yield just under 2.5" of lift and i'd like as close to level as possible in the rear. so i'm shooting for about an inch to 1.5" of lift in the rear.

i just want to clarify, i should be good with one chevy leaf under my OEM leafs and remove the overload to achieve this?

do i use the "flip the pack over and measure to center pin" method described a few pages back by assembling my new pack and shoot for a measurement that is 1-1.5" taller than my stock measurement?

i guess i'm hoping to just disassemble and reassemble once. is that even possible?

thanks again Doug, you are the man!

Thanks Josh, I appreciate the comments.... & I agree, under that surface rust you have some nice donor springs, good even ARC...

This is a great way to find out where you are as far as height numbers go, & yes, you may find that just 1 spring per side will put you exactly where you want to be, as far as the overload goes, like I've said in earlier post, I generally dump it, only time I'd have one is if I towed heavy & often, shit, I have a completed, ready to bolt on set of OMD springs for a 2nd gen that give exactly 1.5" of lift....

^ thanks Doug. i thought about purchasing a set, but i already have all the tools and i got these donors pretty cheap compared to a new bolt on pack. plus i love wrenching and felt pretty solid on the project after reading this thread. i'll be glad to send a little something to the beer fund once i get these cleaned up and installed!:D

Oh, I was just commenting on the irony of having what you're trying to accomplish, not trying to pimp some springs on you haha, :)

You are doing exactly as this thread was intended to be a decent MOD for the DIY guys.....:thumbsup:

Make sure to put up some pics when yer done.....;)

haha, no worries. i still need a few items for the front and i'll be ready to do the entire lift all in one shot. right now my stock taco looks a little wimpy compared to many others on this site. i'll get these broken down and cleaned up this week!

Hey Doug, I'm fixing to do the mod but I'm looking for some advice on leaf configuration.

I currently have the TSB plain-jane, I'm looking for just another 1.5-2 in from there. I don't haul heavy, but I will be building a bed rack soon, all steel 1.5 square tube, I think coming out to around 100 lbs, with another 100 lbs of permanent gear. So 200 lbs that will be semi-permanent, to get that extra 1.5-2, would you think dumping the overload, since there won't be any serious towing and adding 2 Chevy 1/2 ton late model springs along with the main 2 toyota springs will do the trick.

Main objective though is to up payload capacity, without a ton of lift since I'm dealing with some TSBs that are not faded to bad right now. Also thinking about main-2 chevy-overload for that random tows.
