Can the same thing be done with 2 stock tacoma packs and just trimming a couple of the leafs and adding them to the other pack?

I thought about that and the whole point of this thread is looking for quality steel for your build. Sorry to say but: "adding more crap to crap you just have more of it"

Hey doug, been following your spring refurbishing thread for a while now. I have a 98 tacoma with pretty sagged out leafs. Going to be attempting one of your builds in the next couple weeks with a set of 94 chevy 3/4 ton leafs. Thinking about keeping top two tacoma leafs and incorporating either 2 or three shorter chevy leafs into the pack. Going to be running bilstein 5100s w/ eibach coils in the front and looking for that magic number and lengths to get a fairly level height. Any advice? Are there any negatives to keeping the overload spring with your pack configurations? i read earlier you reccomended removing them if not hauling often. Also wondering what would be the best rear shock to pair with this 3-4" rear leaf lift. Read that guys with 10" 5125's were bottoming out.Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Dylan, I would try and install your pack then measure for the perfect length. I went with the 5125 10" and I do not bottom out the 4" of up travel that I have because of how stiff my setup is. And I'm using two 1994 chev 1500 springs and the top two 97 leafs. If I got a total 4 not 3inch the 10" would be a better option, but the 9" would still work for me at 4inches.
Sorry if that's not usefull but it's my experience! :)

Don't do it, (mixing of 1/4" & 3/8" springs) If you're using the Ford leafs (1/4") use just the Ford's adding them to the Toyota main leaf, if you're adding to existing leafs you'll need to find compatible leafs (3/8") for donors...

I concur, with a 3"+ lift in rear the 10" (5 up/5 down) would do well as 9" will suffice for 3" lift
