Would this be a good replacement for a mid travel setup? I want a solid 3" and it seems like id have to look on eBay...kind of skeptical on it all BC of the different amount of leafs involved and such

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
    Doug,
I know this has been asked before but if I have a 2nd gen with the TSB springs what lengths do I want and do I reuse the overload?

Well, just reading pages here and there and picking up on things it seems that not all leaf packs you've found have the same amount of leafs. I'v read some are 3 to 4 to up to like 9 leafs in a given pack. Is there a benefit to any of them as far as going mid travel? I'm only skeptical purchasing something like this on Ebay, not on the actual process or anything, just on what I should be purchasing to fulfill a mid travel need.

Ohhh ok, now I gotchya haha...:) Well , the more leafs you have , the firmer the ride & leafpacks come in varying amounts of ARC, the more ARC, the more lift you're going to get.. Generally adding 2 nice, evenly ARC'd springs is going to give you right about 3" of lift..

Now lets talk about a "mid travel" type of spring upgrade, I still have yet to hear from anyone what constitutes a mid travel suspension, do you know ?? Because I'm not really sure myself, never really look at it that way.. Is it a SUA (Spring Under Axle) ?

O, and OP, thanks for all the info. This is defiantly the direction I will be going when I lift. Plus it gives me an excuse to scour the junkyard and find other cool stuff.

This is the single most important aspect of the whole junkyard excursion...

(The springs are just an excuse to get out there...haha:D)

Doug is the man!! Just had him do my rear leafs on Wednesday. The ride quality is sooo much better than stock. Got about 2.5-2 3/4" of lift and a firmer rear. Feels a lot more solid on the highway. Just need my King shocks and I'll be set. He's an honest dude who definitely knows his shit. I'd recommend his springs to anyone considering going with Deavers or All-Pro's and if you're local, he can install them too. Great guy, solid parts and fun to hang out with. +1 Douggie!

No SUA, but wondering how many leafs would be ideal for a mid travel setup? Mid travel are extended front coils/UCAs/and what you put in the rear. I have been reading up a little on Dakars and how they can sag over a short period of time, ~year, so I was figuring I would need something with a little more leafs in it. Wondering if you know the longevity of these and how many in a pack would be good for a rougher, little bit faster terrain.

Could you compare them to Dakars, other than price...?

Mid travel rear is just an enhanced version of the stock leafs with better control, load carrying and shocks of course.

A "true" mid travel set up would be an improved leaf system, Shackle flips, and under the wheel well shock mount relocation with a bit longer shock like the BAMF kit.

Hi Doug, awesome thread. My leafs are flat and boring. I want to get that arch back in them but retain something close to stock ride height. I have a cap on my 4dr and mostly do sandy washes, like Fish Creek in Anza, not really heavy wheeling. Deavers in Santa Ana quoted me over 4 bills to re-arch the stock set and AAL. Wanna chat to see what you can do? I'm in Poway.

Thanks for the kind words & props Brian !! Remember, you come back here in a week for some anti squeak pads & a re torque...:)

Thanks Erik, great definition, now I know what to tell others that ask !!:)

Thanks, it has turned out to be a novel of both nonsense & great info I guess haha..:D

Yeah re ARC'ing the stock leafs is pointless with the soft steel involved, I refresh all my leafpacks with American steel, yours would be an easy fix. & for what they quoted you I could even install for that price, if you do the R&R yourself it'd be approx. half that amount;)

Saturday was a fun day, was out in the des digging up Geodes and Opals, gopro3 came in handy, made a vid in movie maker and just published it on your tube.

I weighed most of the stuff in the bed and have figured 425-460LBS in the bed, that's outting gear ( icechest, tools, recovery gear, 2x gas cans, jerry and 2x rotopax cans, water) and Geology gear plus buckets of Geodes and Opal material.

I have to say, I'm still very smitten with these springs Doug, one of the if not best mod on the truck, take a beating loaded and un-loaded with little to no maintenance and absolutely no "0" sag, plush, fluid action both on road and off.

    Enjoy.

Hey man thanks for the info. And you can add me to the list. I took off my crapped out aal and got a set of non tow package S10 leaf springs. I even cut the eyes off the main leqf and used it. It rides like a truck and doesn't squat down when I haul wood now.. I didn't measure the before and after but my dad has a truck like mine but alot newer and my springs are about 2 1/4 higer then his stock. I dont have a pic of my springs but ill take some tomarow. Heres a few pics of my truck

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Holy crap man... What the hell do you have going on in front? That looks closer to a 4-5" lift than anything.
