Shit yeah, building your own is the way to go if you're up to it. I just finished up one yesterday that gave me fits. I didn't get a chance to take pics of the completed enclosure yet, but just as an idea I have at least 20 hours in this one, but don't have a table saw either. Some things got cut a few times

Somewhere near halfway in, still pre-assembly - before a re-tune (dragged the vent out another 10" or so for ~29 Hz tune)

After a few months of sitting on it, I should finally get to hear it tomorrow!

nice woofer would go with a dual baffle and 3/4 minimum.

What is a dual baffle? I was just planning on 1" and filling the box with polyfill for better sound.

dual baffle is when you double up the mdf to make it double the thickness double. 1'' is good. i dont like polyfill... but i like ported boxes....

So like if i made the main shell of the box, just thicker? I would make it ported but i have no idea how, and this damn designs complicated enough that i just wanna build the box, fill it, and listen. I get what you are saying though.

So if i make the entire box's top, then i can simply do 2 inch for where the sub will drill into and fill it with polly and im done?

Polyfil isn't necessarily gonna give you 'better sound'. The function it serves in this case is to make the enclosure virtually larger. You can get up to around a 35% increase in apparent volume this way. If your enclosure is already the optimum volume, this will be bad. If your enclosure is too big it will be extra bad. Too much will be bad. The only time you need polyfil is when you're forced to use a smaller airspace than optimal. Then up to 1.75 lbs/sq ft is about as far as you can go before actually making the box volume shrink.

Oh thank you, i was not aware there was a formula behind it. I will have to do the math later. Thanks!

Hey y'all! I just finished the box and the sub is securely mounted in its new home in my trucks back seats. Now a new problem arises. The amp has power, turns on just fine. Now the sub which is a Skar 12" vvx-v3 which is a 4 ohm sub with dual voice coils (will post stats below). It pushes 600 rms on 1200 watts here. The amp is also skar, does 1500 watts total. Now my friend told me to wire this 4 ohm sub to 2 ohm at the amp to make it run efficient. I will post the amp stats below because i am puzzled. I used 14 gauge speaker wire fron the amp to the sub if that makes a difference. But im pretty sure either i wired this sub incorrectly or the wires junk? I just want the damn thing to shake the truck and run efficiently.

    Amp stats:
    IMG_3069.jpg

    12" sub stats:
    IMG_3070.jpg

Am i feeding it too much power it shuts off the amp or something? If its 550 rms at 4 ohms should i have wired it to straight 4??HELP!

You can't wire this sub for a 4 ohm load...gonna be 2 or 8. 2 will give you the most output (supposedly), but will make the amp draw more current. Not sure which is more efficient - that figure isn't given (although could be figured given a few division exercises). I'd suspect a 4 (or 8) ohm load would be more efficient than 2 or 1. The amp literature is suggesting you're good to a 1 ohm load, so no concerns on the 2 ohm load (smaller is more difficult for amps) if the manufacturer is feeding you good info.

Maybe you wired in series accidentally? That way the amp would see an 8 ohm load and would make maybe 300W. Did you put a meter on the cable to the amp?

You didn't really say what the problem was though. Is the amp shutting down when you turn it up?

Do consider though, 1500W and 1 ohm stable from a sub $200 amp is unlikely. Even the 930W @ 2 ohms figure is suspicious at such a low price.

Probably should have written this first, but check all your power and ground connections. Your ground should be securely attached to an unpainted spot on the frame or body.

Hey thanks for replying. Im re-scratching the ground at lunch time on break today to see if thats the issue. The amp is fine, gets full power, no turn off or anything. I rechecked the wires 3 times now and everythings where it should be at the right polarity. Now the true issue is that the sub does not move(so no power from the amp?) if i turn the bass all the way up on the remote and amp and put my head unit volume up high the sub begins to move A LITTLE but nothing near where it should be. This leads me to believe somethings not connected correctly...

This is how i wired the sub up 100% accurate to this picture. Except my amp has 4 holes total for speaker input (two neg two pos) i feel like this si where my wiring is messed up at but im currently not able to trouble shoot so
