So my apartment complex is repainting the white division lines today. Supposedly there was notifications on our doors. Obviously I did not get any notification and walked out to my truck missing with horrible skid lines left.

My question is my truck is automatic, it was backed in with the e brake engaged. Doesn't look like they tried to shimmy the door at all. Should I be concerned about any transmission issues? My alignment is off after I drove it.

Um, yeah, as well as the drivetrain and ebrake. Not supposed to be towed 4down,etc. according to the manual. If there's damage, your insurance company may need to be involved. I'd get it checked out, but that's just me.

Wow. I'd be livid. I imagine you have a reasonable claim at repairing any damage done and new tires while you're at it. Assuming no fine print in the rent agreement they illegally towed it and then the tow company completely botched the tow. As far as I've heard in most places towing companies are responsible for any damages caused from negligent towing practices.

It does however appear that they didn't tow it like that the whole way. It looks like they dragged it out into the middle of the parking lot and then probably towed it properly after that. Even still thats far from acceptable.

4down, etc. was just reference to what the manual says, not what actually may or may not have happened.

I'd be livid to find my truck had been dragged out like that. At best you've got flat spots. I'd get it checked out. Take pics and document everything.

Do you need to know, or care?
Ya, having it towed is one thing, but if you're going to do it to me, do it properly. Up in front and rollers in the back.

    .
Not good to pull a vehicle and skid the tires while it is locked by the transmission and emergency brake.

Good thing you took some pics ... I would notify them in case there are issues.

Even if they have the right to tow you ... it does not give them the right to damage your vehicle.

    Good luck OP

The vehicle should have been put on rollers.

In regards to the "note they left on your door", the apartment complex can't assume that everyone parked there is a resident, so the note issue is moot. Also, they should only be able to tow if you parked in a blocked off area. Take pictures showing there wasn't a "don't fucking park here" sign. It would also be required to have the dates on it.

In most cases, you're only liable for an agreement you signed. Especially if there's no notification otherwise. Take it to a shop and get it inspected, get a quote, and call your insurance. The insurance company will battle for you so that they don't have to pay.

My guess is OP had it back up completely to the curb so they couldn't fit the rollers on the back. Thus they dragged it out and then put rollers on it.

Even the shadiest apartment complex has license plate numbers and vehicle descriptions in files of residents. It's for insurance reasons, among others.

They also knock on doors before towing. An unanswered door generally will get towed.

Also, they don't need to post a sign. Maybe in your state? Written notice is sufficient here, whether that's a flyer on the group of mailboxes or individual notes on each door in mine.

Someone tag me when the apartment complex and tow company make their reply posts.

    Otherwise, who knows.

It's possible. But my guess is the complex just said, "tow anybody parked out there". Regardless, the tow company fucked up. Insurance needs a call ASAP.
