People but v8s in ford rangers all the time and they have a smaller engine bay then us Tacoma owners so im sure it can fit. I have done a couple engine swaps (no tacomas yet), and i can say it will cost a :censored: load of money and time, especialy if you want it done right. But if i had the money to do it i still would rather spend the money on suspension.

    BTW, Welcome to TacomaWorld.

im sure you could get most engines in there with enough work. ive seen some place that will throw in a diesel for a paltry $15 grand

You'll never see a v8 in a taco, but you will see the new 6 that's in the 4runner.

i think having a factory V8 option would give them a huge advantage over other mid size trucks. why else do people buy Dodge Dakotas? bulletproof reliability?

i dont get how a full size chevy with a 5.3 v8 can get over 20 mpg's on the high way but a v6 tacoma that is smaller and lighter can get about the same. why not throw a v8 in the tacoma like the chevy's and have more power plus its pushing a smaller truck so it should get better mpg's right??? correct me if im wrong but it just dont make since to me

Those chevys just switch off 4 of the cyl when you are just cruising down the highway. My dad is getting 24MPG on his 5.3. They had that tech since the 80's. They just started to use it again 6 years ago.

I have yet to see anything indicating the "est. mileage" of full size trucks with v8s these days is anywhere near 20. I know guys with 09/10 F150s that are getting about 16 highway, despite Ford's claim of 21. Around town, about 12 - 14, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

20+ mpg on V8 fullsizes is marketing.

Edit: And yes, variable displacement is a good tech, but it's also one more thing to break.

Frankly, it's a truck. The last thing I would worry about is mpg. If you want good mileage, buy a knockaround car with a little 4 popper for a few grand.

You have to drive like a grandpa to get the 20+ mileage. No punching it.

dont see why. amount of labor and parts is pretty similar. just more raw materials.

probably be a $7,000 option like the V10s on the F250s back when i got mine. damn do i miss that thing.....
