So your trail does not have the center diff, correct?

    The trail, not the limited.

Except, they are not all full time, so trim is indeed quite important. As I said above, I believe the limited is the only one with the Torsen.

Yeah, they probably call it full time 4wd cause it sounds more tough and truck like. AWD is more Subaru car-ish :D

V8s are the exact same, but no 2wd. I could put my v6 in 4 and leave it there forever and it would function same as the 8. No ADD to worry about which is nice though.

You can also run them in 4lo with the center diff open, and not worry about binding on things like slickrock. In Moab I run it like that often, not chirping tires and bind up the cvs.

That would be interesting, I haven't come across anyone trying that swap yet. Do it!

So does the 2016 Trail Edition Runner have AWD like the 4th Gen V8 did. What year was the last year for the 4Gen Runner?

Thanks for the info. Seems like a step backwards, I mean if you have the technology why not put it in ALL you trucks and SUV vehicles ?!? How good is the AWD system in the RAV4?

I actually didn't like the AWD system in my 2014 limited. No 2wd option, so I felt the mpg wasn't as good as it could have been. Being stuck in awd might be good in snowy, icy areas, but not needed in Hawaii. Happy with the new trail, but miss the luxury features of the limited. Like the air conditioned seats...

:edit: you can still get a 2wd limited, but if you want 4x4 you have to get it with AWD.

MPG shouldn't be affected considering power isn't being supplied to the front axle unless the rear is slipping.

Still got some mechanical drag, but more of a mental thing. My loaded Tacoma still got better mpg than the stock limited.

I've removed the front driveshaft out of curiosity and didn't notice any mpg improvement. Burnouts were epic though.

well there must be a reason Toyota put skinny 245 tires and 7" wide wheels on the limited, which is supposed to be more or a street oriented suv.

I'm used to 17-18 in my truck, but it's a V6. I was getting 15-16 in the 2014 limited. We'll see how the new trail compares.
