A lot of our ambulances are the 6.0 and 6.4. When I was doing industrial we had the 6.7. Talk about boner inducing! However there's many many good points to petrol over diesel. Warms up fast in the winter. No dicking with inter-coolers, oil changes are cheap as is servicing them. Both have their plus and minuses.

No doubt, lugging around 15 qts of used oil gets old.

I'd really like to punch that 6.7 but I will say the 6.4 gets up and goes pretty decently, IMO.

A friend of mine had one of those. He was one of the first ones with a 6.4L.

So he's sitting at the bar talking trucks with his buddy who is a mechanic at the dealership. It seems Ford has problems with the lift pumps coming apart, lodging debris in the injectors, and blocking the injectors open. Fuel fills the cylinders, engine hydrolocks. Around $12,000 or so, I believe he said. In other words, worse problems ($$) than the 6.0L.

He now owns a Duramax. It will be interesting what happens with the 6.7L!

I love company trucks. Not my money when it breaks.:D

Yeah they're not a great design, lots of issues with EGR system. They pull though.

haha my step dad uses one as a horse shoeing rig so it's got some weight in it. It litterally just will not go up some hills around here without dropping into 1st gear. Oh and the people complaining about the tacoma 6 speed need to try that ford out, worst transmission ever.

    5.4 is gutless for sure.

The new 5.0 has some balls though FWIW.

When they drop in a 4.0 V6 turbo-diesel that weighs roughly the same as the current V6, I'm game.

Not gonna happen though. Not for a while at least.

Well if they want to get the 25mpg that is supposed to affect all cars/trucks by 2025 then turbo diesel is the way to go!

well with the fuel prices constantly on the rise...its the most likely option.
whether Whippersnapper wants to accept it or not.

$4.00 - $5.00+ per gallon of 87 octane with average mpg at or around 20mpg is ridiculous. chevy, ford, dodge & even the freakin tundra get about the same mpg!
we do not drive full size trucks...

diesel is about the same price - cheaper than gas in most western states & the Toyota D4D gets 25-28mpg consistently.
The technology for this fuel economy is already in use almost everywhere else but the good ole US of A.
and its a clean burning diesel that would easliy pass any US emissions test.
    yes, even in Cali.

x2 not sure where you're getting this "diesel is about the same price - cheaper than gas in most western states" stuff. At least out here it's quite a bit more than premium.

I had a Canadian market FJ60 back in the 80's. It had an inline diesel, non-turbo. Sometimes I wish I never sold it.
