With regards to the demand for diesel cars in the US, I have been car shopping with my wife, and we went to a BMW dealer to look at 1 and 3 series. We asked the salesman what happened with the diesel engine optioned cars (3 and 5 series) and he told us that BMW had to put huge incentives (~$3500) to get rid of them and as a result, BMW just stopped selling them in the US.
That says to me that Americans still have the image of the black soot spewing mercedes of the 80s with 0-60 times of 45 seconds.
Top Gear (UK) did a side by side comparison of the 5 series gas vs 5 series diesel, and the diesel didn't yield much in terms of speed.
However, at the Audi dealer the A3 TDI didn't stay on the lot long enough long enough for us to test drive one. Those were flying off the lot, but Audi is discontinuing the A3 TDI for a year or two while they revamp it for Europe(then get it USA approved for crash testing).

New diesel technology is awesome. VW, BMW and even Mazda all have clean and efficient diesel engines in the US.

How many babies do I have to punch to get a diesel option? I dont care if the truck would be slower. I'd punch a baby for this option.

Then why are drum brakes not used industry wide?

Of course they increase braking power.

It's an upgrade on a lot of brands....

You're a fool if you don't think disc brakes are better or you are just trying to justify your taco having rear drum brakes.

Go pull a trailer with an F150 or a Dodge with rear discs then do the same in a Chevy with rear drums.

Also stop tests have the GM stopping distance much further than the other two. In order to get rear discs in a GM 1500 you have to move up to the Maxx towing package.

Drum brakes are cheaper, but they are not as effective.

Don't forget Mercedes with the BlueTec

    Awesome power and fuel mileage.

Although I think those are tied in with VW and Audi somehow..

I agree they are effective. They just are not as good as a properly set up disc system.

If they upgrade torque and HP and increase the towing capability I hope they change to rear disc. For 30k plus I think they could put them on...

I'm surprised none of those vids had the smoke stack pickups side by side blowing smoke together. Surprised and disappointed.:(

Ignorant statement from a Liberal. Don't know nada on a subject, only a special agenda.

As far as I see. Air is fine in the Bay Area. You should worry about other crap that does health issues.

You don't know me. Only liberals like to breath fresh air? You don't have a clue what you are posting about. The irony of it is you making such an ignorant statement accusing me of it. That about as black kettle as it gets.

Sure the air is better in the bay area. The sea breazes see to that. It's the valley that has bad air quality. All the crap sits down here like in a bowl.
