That is in a south american or european truck. ship it to north America, and slap all the EPA regulated crap on it and see what kind of milage it puts out.

The EPA has screwed the pooch in the diesel world.

Cummins 4bt in a tacoma for the win.

Echoe of everything I just said and I agree except that's a big negative on the cummins bread van motor. The Toyota D-4D motor is hundreds of pounds lighter, has 40 more HP, worldwide proven reliability even in 3rd world countries with piss for fuel, and far more efficient. There's no comparison, at all...

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I agree. Dont get me wrong Cummins are good engines.

But the 4bt is too heavy it belongs in a tractor or bread van. Also I have driven a 4bt and a late model toyota diesel and tgere is no comparison on how nice it drives either. Its a shame he oil companies are alowed to gang rape us and not even give a shit abiut the baby..

The whole system is so corrupt that comnined with the tree huggers are why we will never see one and if we do its going to be overpriced.

You can make diesel in your bathtub in your front yard and they are charging more for it than gasoline.

How does the torque output compare ? The 4bt is a legendary engine, it will run forever, is simplistic, stout, will live being neglected and is easy to pump more power out of. As well as being completely mechanical with no electronics to fail.

The 4bt probably has a bigger torque number but its going to be in a shorter range. The power band on the toyota diesel was way longer than the old skewl thumper..

With a manual in a toyota the toyota diesel would be a million times more fun to drive

The 4bt has something like 15 foot pounds more torque, not much of a difference.

Diesel still is the cheapest fuel in Canada , usually a couple cents a litre less than regular 87

I don't think your experience is representative of diesel prices from coast to coast in Canada. From what I've seen and paid over the past 18months Diesel is usually 6-15c a liter more expensive than gas in Quebec. I've looked up other provinces on GasBuddy and instances of diesel being 15-20% more expensive than regular gasoline are quite common.

I had an old detroit diesel powered chevy and it was good to me, but between the added upfront purchase cost of a diesel, more expensive fuel (+def) and maintenance I can't say with 100% certainty I'd buy a diesel tacoma on day one. I'd probably wait a model year or two and then re-assess before committing.

The increase in diesel prices years ago was also seen as an added tax on the trucking industry by oil companies as truckers are stuck paying whatever it costs....

I think they may come around at some point. Nissan is going to start putting Cummings diesels in their Titans. Maybe a baby one for their Frontier. Toyota will have to do something to "Keep up with the Jones'" so to speak.

Why was the discontinued FJ on the poll but the regular cab taco wasn?

Cept it does cost 5-7k more to produce in that the internal parts are of better heavier quality to sustain the abuse from the running of the motor as diesel runs on shear combustion rather than a gasoline with an ignition source. It also has to run heavier emissions equipment to keep it cleaner as diesel has been tarnished with a 'ITS DIRTIER MANTRA" which is a load of bullshit.

If I had the 14k to swap the D4D into my regluar cab I would as it will create more reliable power, longevity, and higher MPG's

Yup, the reason diesel fuel costs so much in the US is taxes. It's labeled right there on the pumps, the amount of tax per gallon on the various grades of fuel.

In Europe and other areas diesel is taxed less than petrol, therefore is much cheaper per gallon.

A diesel option would be nice for towing, that lowend grunt and better MPG would be nice. And hopefully it wouldn't be a $5000 option. If it cost that much initially, plus higher fuel costs, it might take 100,000 miles before you recovered the cost compared to petrol.

A diesel would be a no-brainer for the Canadian market, probably sell like crazy. But there's the limited production line for the North American market, only the two production lines in San Antonio and Baja Mexico. I see you have limited models available in Canada for some odd reason, doesn't make sense.

And San Antonio has to share the assembly line with the Tundra. Maybe it's time for Toyota to build up the production lines, maybe build another plant. I know the engines and transmissions are built in Japan, so Toyota obviously doesn't have the manufacturing capability in North America to keep up with demand.
