That is IF a company sees it would be marketable. They don't seem to have the same opinions as we do. For example, there is speculation that the new generation of 4Runners may be unibody.... DA FUQQQ!?

LOL, yup...did that too. You'll also find yourself starting off in 2nd for a while...and I'm still throwing shifter right-up to reverse... When I brought home the Taco my 9 y/o daughter was pissed...she was almost sobbing that I got rid of "Big Blue" (Camper/Plow/Tow pkg so it had height). So I took her for a ride around the block (nice to have 4-full doors) and she changed her mind...now she really digs the Taco... No doubt, I'll always miss that CTD :(... I'm sure my neighbors are happy though...no more early morning starts to wake them out of bed...mine was pre common rail injection.

Yep, no idea when diesel will really hit the US...if anytime likely next year since I gave up waiting and just bought a new gasser...

Can you quote credible sources? If that were true, then the VW TDI wouldn't be available, nor would Dodge, or Ford diesels.

Obama, CARB and Federal EPA have imposed such strict standards for emission on diesels, that the big three to invest in a small pickup - 1/2 ton truck are not financially feasible. That applies to most car makers. Three models that I know of made it to North America (Volkswagon TDI, BMW?, Audi?).

Don't get confused with 3/4-1 ton trucks sold today. There are a demand for diesel in those trucks. Have been since the mid 80's with Ford F-250. When there were zero emission requirements on diesels.

There should be a lot more diesel vehicles out there. More efficient, longevity, but the Government wants small compact cars with battery operated that are not a long term fix.

    Again, credible sources????

Folks, it is a simple function of supply/demand and market economics, not some grand conspiracy. VW, Ford, Dodge, BMW, etc. believe they can profit from the premium price differential for their diesel engines. On the other hand, Toyota apparently sees greater room for profit in the hybrid technologies and has chosen to allocate their research dollars in that area.

You got one word right; demand. The government wants nothing more than hybrid/electric cars. The only real supply are the Prius' in that market. All others have failed. I will say if auto makers made more diesel options in cars and light weight trucks. That would be the #1 selling engine(s).

Also stating Obama and Epa are not credible sources. Watch the news and read the papers. They are pushing electric, solar and other sources that are not fossil fuels. Too much money spent on failures. Volkswagon TDI, BMW and 3/4-1ton trucks are selling very good for deisel market.

Meh... My stance are deisel engines and less gas/hybrids.

Yes look at how hard they've pushed and subsidized the failure of a car, the Volt. Why not put tax payer money somewhere reasonable.

I'd be delighted to pay my taxes toward a lightweight V6 diesel engine!

Anyone ever consider dropping one into a taco?

Never. You are truly a revolutionary thinker in the wrong time.

Seriously though, all the time. I believe a some have, but nothing mainstream. It'd cost too much versus shoving another V6 in there.

I'm sorry but diesels are over rated. I had a cummins before the taco and yeah it had power but sucked to drive in town and do any work on. I'm also guessing the diesel that would be put in the taco like the hilux would be under powered.
Why don't people want a small gas v8 in the taco?

Well fuck diesel then, I'd get a V4 with a 5 speed. Would give me about the same economy. :(

I'd have to say you must not know shit about diesels if you think the d4d is underpowered.

i'm here in germany; stopped at a toyota dealership outside of kaiserslautern last week. they were closed but i looked inside of one and poked around the outside... i have to say, they're a lot cooler on tv. i would take a gasoline 2nd generation over a diesel helix any day.

    helix =

I'll tell you what I want, 4 cylinder turbo diesel all the way baby!!!:D
A V6 turbo diesel as well. Toyota has no idea what kind of market they could open up here in the US with one of those. Once they introduce a diesel, the Tacoma would take the market over. We would have like a monopoly on midsize trucks, no competition (there is none anyway).

Having mpg and torque through the roof would be great. One can only dream.
