Dude nothing is a lifetime, that's so much bs. it's still a truck moving parts, things brake. I don't want tell you how many diesel trucks I work on weekly that are totally junk.
For the cost of the truck, import it to the USA and the fuel he's going to use "over the life of the truck" there is no savings. there might be less maintenance but it cost a lot more for those trucks in the long run.
Read all you want how great they are, I do the work and see it daily.
Not tring to bash them.. just keeping it real, Toyota needs market for them in the US or you wont see them here.

BTW: have you gone to th gas station lately? Deisel is still more than gasoline...and it's not going down to fast anytime soon. just pennies

answer me this since you have all the stats...what was their profit margin? i'll help you out...it was less than 9%. if you run the numbers you will find that many other companies in other industries have higher profit margins.

yes, Exxon may have posted some huge numbers, but they also had to pay huge expenses...just sayin'...

EDIT: holy cow...wells fargo posted a 13.81% profit margin for the same time....!! why didnt you bring them up?

That statement is a BIG negative, If that was true we would all be dead due to cancer. The difference between Diesel and Petrol engines, Diesel smoke or soot affects us directly compared to gas engines which runs cleaner because of better refinement and "Diesel Exhaust fumes more cancer causing than secondhand smoke". New low sulfur diesel and blue Diesel engines are much better. Biggest myth is that Diesel burns cleaner than regular gas - How can a fuel which is less refined run cleaner?

All of this "getting your money's worth" talk is malarkey. YOU NEVER GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH OUT OF A VEHICLE! Vehicles are horrid investments.

With that said, there are PLENTY of uses for a diesel Tacoma, as well as a tundra in the US. They may not have the market, yet, but I would much rather pull anything with a diesel, and performance is a snap with just a few parts (easy to install) and a programmer. I've owned a Dodge Ram, and it sucked parking and maneuvering that thing. A Tacoma would be much more "city friendly" and with added towing capacity would be a better work truck. I'd buy one. If Toyota can design a gasoline engine well enough to run 300,000+ miles, I can only imagine the average life of a diesel. This truly isn't a good topic for a debate, as different people have different needs and wants.

I find it strange how there is supposedly "no market" yet there are quite a few Toyota forums which have "Diesel Swap" topics and threads all through them.

Give me the reliability and better looks of a Toyota Tacoma with the horsepower and torque specs of a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck with the payload, and I'd buy it. (Just make sure the frame doesn't rust.)

Who doesn't....hahaha. after we mod the hell out of them, all we are missing is 500-600 HP and 1000-1200 lb/ft of torque!

Those are the average modded numbers of a Cummins I-6.

I'd take a smooth 300 HP and 600 lb/ft of torque out of a diesel in a Tacoma!
