you can join us on the trans Wisconsin trail from Lansing to potosi on Saturday (11/9). Probably the best section in the general area I’ve found this far.

    Here you go
    http://transwisconsintrail.com/wordpress/?page_id=91

The section from potosi to Lansing is definitely the best section to do (I did a majority of it this summer, it’s a lot of just gravel roads north of Lansing).

you can also check out my thread for trips around the Midwest.

we’ve done quite a few since this spring. Once you’ve gone once or twice there’s a pretty good group of guys and you can usually find someone to do something with.

That’s because it’s NE... hipsters don’t drive Tacomas.

That said, there isn’t much here like one would find out west.

Went in in July to get a price on installing a second battery and some other wiring. They did not call when promised. I called them and they said for sure next week. Nothing.
    I refuse to beg.

Shocks aren't hard at all. I'd be willing to help you out with them.

Normally I would do it myself, but I got westnile over the summer and still have a hard time walking well or lifting things. I may take up your offer for spring though. They wanted around $550 for install and alignment, which is actually a pretty decent price, but thats also a new grill and set of fog lights.

My going rate is much less than that. Grab a couple cases of beer and we can have everything except the alignment knocked out in an afternoon.

They installed my front runner racks. Another place refused to claiming they refuse to drill into my cab. When I told them it doesn't require drilling, it bolts to the factory rack holes the manager claimed Tacoma's don't have factory holes. I'm like "uh yes they do it's where the factory rack bolts too, I've already shown your tech the instructions explaining this and he said it would be no problem" but he refused. Then when I asked about installing the one on my topper they said it would be too hard to line up the holes with the new beefier track system (front runners are thicker than the typical Yakima rails). That was toppers and more.

So Zeus did it, was around $400, more then I wanted to pay but I didn't trust myself to install the new rails well. Another shop refused to do the work too, rack attack I think it's called?

So Zeus was the only ones who would do it and they had NO issues with the cab or topper install including using the existing holes.

So I am putting in my lift tomorrow (OME 2" medium load) and I watched the install videos and the only question I have is about bouncing the truck to stabalize the rear bushings...can someone learn me some knowledge here....

Do they mean just jumping on the back? Because they are making it sound like it was a more complex process.

    Any intel would be great!

    Thanks

I’ve never heard of doing this before.. rear shocks are cake. Springs can take a little more work but it’s still not bad.

Lube the rear urethane bushings and final torque the front lower and rear bushing bolts with load on them. This will help with squeaking. Down the road.

Flip the first overload spring if you want it to have less compression of the rear suspension before the overload engages. Easiest to do it with new springs. Instructions here. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-ome-dakar-overload-flip.534516/

Use your jack to articulate the rear suspension on the opposite side to help droop the axle lower to assist in install if needed.

Have an extra set of small jackstands to hold the axle while the shocks and springs are unbolted.

Do the driver side first, and loosen the rear fuel tank strap to gain better access if needed.

Lube all points and Ujoints while you are under there.

Get an alignment ASAP if you want to keep your tires.

Use proper torque values on all fasteners, u-bolts on 2g are 72ftlb, not 27. That is a known typo in the FSM. do not over tighten them, ask this guy what happens. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rear-end-feels-weird.543261/

Take a marker/paint pen and put a dot on all bolts that receive their final torqueing. Then before the wheels go on, go through and check all fasteners for your marks to ensure everything is good to go.

Good luck and don’t drink tooo much. There is a point of diminishing return when mixing alcohol and working on vehicles!
