I had a 2007 Nissan Frontier with a lock - I like my Tacoma - but it is inexcusably cheap of Toyota not to include one.

Hmm..... hose clamps can prevent the tailgate from being removed, but I would need to buy a handle lock to make sure the tailgate doesn't get opened.

    I don't.:)

Locking the tailgate would come in handy when I move every couple of years, but with a soft tonneau and the way I wrap up the stuff I am moving, it is easier for a thief to steal the whole truck than dig into the back. It may happen eventually, but oh well, shit happens.

the lock isn't worth it to me. Especially with the couple of mentions of popandnlock malfunctions here requiring tailgate disassembly.

I keep all my tools in 5 gallon pale buckets, and tote boxes, so it's easier to steal from me. Just open the tailgate and pull out the buckets and the boxes.

Man, I'm really surprised at Toyota. No tailgate lock?

Popandlock might malfunction - but a proper built in lock like on my Frontier worked flawlessly through 150k miles of neglect. Again, I like my Tacoma but the lack of a simple tailgate lock is indefensible - imho.

I haven't bought a new vehicle since 2007, but looking at some of the responses here a tailgate lock is the new sliced bread. How do I go on living without one.

The lock would be nice if I started playing hockey again. Lugging my gear in and out of my apartment is a pain in the ass, and I'm not leaving that stink factory in the cab. Beyond that, I've never needed a lock...
