There will be a lot of entries from the grill and/or smoker, but I like leaving it open to all cooking devices - as long as the person entering it is the one that cooked it (gentleman's/lady's agreement).

My company does BBQ, so we're obviously smoker heavy, but there are plenty of uses for our rub/methods that extend beyond a smoker, so I'm good with it!

Lol my bad just kind of thought smoker since most of what gets shared in the smoking meat forum is smoked meats. I think it’s all good. Not sure how PF Spicy Peach Cobbler would be though. :)

All good. All cooking equipment will be included!

I don't think we'll make the different cooking equipment be the category delimiters. A cast iron steak on the stove-top ought to go against a grill fired steak, I think, right?

Maybe an open category, then vote on Most Creative, Best Overall?

    Or a main-dish and a sides/dessert category?

The thing with sides and desserts as stand alone categories is that they tend to have much fewer entries.

I would think those can just be in a general/open category. Then you could have it by meat type and not have to worry about what it was cooked on. Then have an overall grand champion.

I still think we need to do a cooking comp in person some year. Big ol’ PF festival.

What other ideas do we have?!?!

It's looking like we'll have a prize coming in from @Kremtok, just working out the details!

Any of you guys know any other vendors or business owners that might want to throw a few prizes in the pool?

Also, how are we feeling about doing a Pitfaced BBQ category and an Open category again? I'm good with doing something different if we can make it work. I think that having a beef, chicken, pork, ribs, dessert, etc. category will water it down too much. Might have some categories with just one or two entries. Besides, it spreads the prizes thin.

We could do a main and a sides/dessert category, maybe?

I'd like to get this thing launched early in June, so it's out there with the rules and prizes early, giving people PLENTY of time to participate. Let's grow this thing!

I think, if you are concerned that having different meat categories will spread things too thin, then having a "sides/dessert" category will do the same.

I think having some various things will help. Taking the PF, Open, Wild Game, Sides/Desserts could do. Gives 4 places for people to enter. If you use PF in you dessert bonus points. :)

As for prizes I’m sure you know the answer there. :)

I do think that the sides/dessert category will be comparatively small, but it at least won't dilute the main category like having different meat categories.

Maybe could put the majority of the prizes in the main category (prizes for 1-3) and have just a prize for 1st in the sides/dessert?

    Just spitballing. Appreciate the input!

I would do 1-2 on sides/desserts so that in essence you could get one of each.
