Okay, finally making one of these build thread thingamajigs. I'll keep updating the OP as I mod and I'll post some TRs here

First off, as she stands today

    Some backstory,
Became a Taco owner last October when my '04 GX470s transmission shat the bed. Can't for the life of me find a pic of it, nothing super special though.
I was between a 4runner and a Tacoma. I went to see a ski film premier during the week I was vehicle-less and saw a dude pull a sled right out of the bed of his Tacoma in the movie, that sealed the deal, I remembered how useful having a truck is. Looked around, found a couple nice ones in the area, checked a few out, two days later I was a Tacoma owner

Okay, to the more fun stuff now. I'll start with the mod list and then go through some of the progression. Note, I'll also be using this page a reference for myself when I'm looking at planning my next mods to get.

Truck just w/ wheels. first trip w the Taco, up Yankee Hill.

I really enjoyed how it drove offroad, so I spent much of the winter researching and picking up little odds and ends and gear to get myself and the truck ready for its first summer of wheeling. Come March/April, I'd gotten enough recovery equipment I felt better wheeling, a CB, some lighting, bike mount, and started working on some projects like onboard water and planning out air, and other creature comfort stuff.
    CB location
    [IMG]

I spent a LOT of time researching the best approach to make the truck as catered to my needs without spending loads of money. That search led me to the OME kit, I got one with the group buy earlier this year and spent the following ~2ish months waiting [as] patiently [as i could]. In the in between time, I was trying to answer the tire question. Was pretty set on 33s so it was a matter of 255/85 or 285/75, I ended up deciding I'd go with 255s. That all changed when I saw @Gramps posting up some take off 35s on the trading post. Decided it'd be more economically viable to go with 35s, not a bad conclusion, eh!?:bananadance:
Sometime in there I picked up the voodoo bed rack with the awning from @tmz1m :hattip:Went to explore the Rampart range area, super fun, mellow FSR driving
    [IMG]

Even though I live in Denver now, I used to live in the Roaring Fork Valley, and my parents still do, so I spend a lot of time up there. I started checking out the area around Hagerman, diemar/sellar lakes, and some of the other fun loops and unmarked trails up there. These are some pics from my last weekend on stock suspension and tires..
    oh yeah, stock flex:curls:

Now the fun REALLY starts! This is around mid-late June now. Finally got the hat I've been waiting MONTHS for :D
    [IMG]
Just so happened to come with this stuff too...

I unfortunately don't have a shop, or even a garage, so I moved my roommates cars around and started the teardown in the driveway. I figured I'd be down for about a week with the tear down, cutting, hammering, installing, and putting it back together - I was pretty spot on with the estimate. I had already had the CMC and slider work done so that'd make my life a bit easier. Still sucked, was hard work but I did it with minimal personal injury and (so it seems) no mechanical malfunctions ;) PICS!
    Before...
    After...
Had to deal with a fair bit of rain, and some days just overbearing heat and sun. thanks Colorado weather. Had to set up shelter
    Stock v OME
    [IMG]
Not gonna lie, getting that to line up took about 3 hours.
    Finally, front done!
I heard mixed reviews on whether the front or rear was harder to install. SO the front drivers side took me about 4.5 hours. I got it figured out, front pass side took 50 minutes. Same goes for the rear but a LOT more of a pain in the ass. Goddamn.. Rear drivers took almost 2 solid days of work before work(how I spent all my mornings) AND I crushed my finger pretty good and broke it and still can't feel the last digit of it..anyways, I was being a dumbass :boink:Once I got the system down, rear pass side took about 90mins, maybe a little under 2 hours. Finally, after a week of Ubering to work, I was done.

Onto the next thing.. Will continue to update this post with mods & the thread with trip reports.

    Feedback welcome:rasta:

    We like very much.

You dog is cute as fuck.

We're truly jealous of where you get to wheel.

And we're proud to be part of it.

    Just ordered some stuff...
more lighting for the sides/back of the truck for camping/setup (4x ditch type flood lights for the side & a 12in spot/flood bar to face backwards)
    Blue Sea fuse box
    New battery
New batt retainer/mount&tray(current one is still held in by voile straps and zip ties)
    Big spool o' wire
    Switch for rear lights

The wiring situation in my truck is embarrassing. All the stuff should be here in around 10 days ish, should be able to start the tear down and re-wire soon after that. I'm going to go back and fix all the ghetto wiring. when I bought the truck it had the wrong type of battery in it and shit rolled downhill from there. After I get the new battery in, get the blue sea wired up to all the accessories, I'll reward that hardwork by getting my onboard air all together and installed. Progress!

Wiring intimidates me, I'll prob be asking all sorts of questions :anonymous:

I'm still figuring out the best position for it. I'll step up to dual batts in the relatively near future and realistically Ill prob keep them in the stock location because I have the 886s and could use a little more weight up there. I want to make sure I setup the blue sea in an area it'd work well w dual batt as well

Just got my 1/2in spacers for the front from @Low Range Off-Road today! I'll throw those in when I put a bumper on and install UCAs. Compensate for the bumper sag with some spacer love.

Brown santa should be here again tomorrow with some Amazon packages, pics to come soon

IMO if you can put one battery on each side of the engine bay. Right now I have one G31 Marine battery in the front corner that weighs 75lbs. My drivers side suspension has to work much harder with that weight, a driver, and the gas tank all on that side. When I go with dual batteries the second is going somewhere on the passenger side of the truck.
