It also helps because you can only do so much through pictures or videos...sometimes you just have to see it (or hear it) in person before you can make a solid decision.

Beyond the LEDs and other minor cosmetics, I have also upgraded my audio system a bit more than the average 3rd gen peeps have been doing. Since the head unit is stock, you'll just have to hear it to appreciate it.

Reporting in, just finished up using the 8ohm 50watt resistor and all is well. I tested it with headlights on, parking lights on, just dtrl and no lights. Happy to say no hyper blinking at all. I just want to say I hate soldering but atleast I know it's good and connected. Thanks to all that posted up on how to do this mod because it was easy. A little time consuming because of my OCD but it's done. Hahaha!

Does it have to be an 8 ohm or can it be the 9 ohm mentioned earlier or either or?

Awesome, great to hear! So it seems like we should be suggesting 8 or 9 ohm resistors (instead of the typical 5-6ohm resistors) when using the DIY Turn as Tail modules and LED lights.

Now, if people want to simply swap out the bulbs for LED bulbs (without being cool and using the Turn as Tail mod), then they will still be fine with 5-6 ohm resistors (or none at all depending on the LED they chose).

Of course, this is barring any long term issues that haven't surfaced yet...and hopefully never will! :fingerscrossed:

What I am still curious about is that if everything works great with a 8 ohm or 9 ohm resistor for the back, what would happen if replacing the front bulbs with led's. Will it change anything or be just fine?

Finally got my DD LEDs tonight!B410B1F1-4EA1-4829-82A7-62A3BD1D3BB2.jpg
Think you can tell which one is not LED!

Frantically working on Turn as Tail mod with DD module.

Question: when I install the resistor for turn signals, do they need to be “ mounted “? I see 2 mounting holes but not much wire came with it ...

They get hot, mounting is definitely recommend.

Thanks @splashflash . I did read they can get warm. did you just mount to back metal plate? DD resistors only came with approx 4" wires. would you recommend extending with spliced wire to just give more room for slack?

Not sure if it's good advice, but I did extend my wires so I could remove the taillight if a bulb ever went out. I've also seen people use zip ties to move it off to the side. Not sure if someone else has other advice or options

so.... I followed wiring diagram from earlier post with 50w 6 ohm resistor. I decided to just do one side ( driver) to test it. I put on hazard lights and instrument panel only showed the passenger blinker, front passenger turn blinking only, rear driver lights NOTHING. BUT when I remove brake light LED the driver turn signal work?!?!?!

    Thoughts???

What a way to start the day.
    D52DB076-A67E-469B-8D98-4DE72B0EBA7C.jpg

Could not drive into work. Can’t get up to 10 mph.

I noticed brakes squeaking slightly when I was moving car in and out of garage last night.

No mechanical obstruction seen in cab.

Since I could not get T-T module working I disconnected and just put resistor on driver turn signal.

Adding to my issues one of the Red LEDS would not work yesterday so I just put LEDS on passenger reverse and brake keeping stock on passenger turn until I got new LED.

Mixing LED and incandescent on passenger side should not cause any issues - right???

Called Toyota. Said would not be covered if caused by LED swap. May try disconnecting battery, replacing back to stock and go from there...

Woah! And no, running led with regular bulbs should be fine. I ran leds on my brakes and regular bulbs on my turns before I did the mod for a couple of months.

    I need to contact DD.

I ordered the same module that was listed earlier in the post and when I spoke to DD earlier they said it should work but at the same time not sure if they have actually done one themselves on the 3rd gen. He mentioned they need to get another one in their shop and try it. He also said they have been trying to get on TW as a vendor but are having trouble getting approved.

I’m thinking if I had done just the LEDs/resistor I’d be fine. That module has me concerned

Hopefully they will think about making a plug and play kit like they do for a few other vehicles including the 4Runner. I sent them a message when this first started asking them about it, and they sent back a message saying there wasn’t enough space in the truck to do this and that the module would be open to the elements so they won’t be releasing a kit. I sent them a link to this thread and didn’t hear anything else. I’m sure they are noticing a good demand, maybe they will change their minds and produce a kit.

    Holy crap!

    o_O

Definitely try disconnecting the battery for a minute! Let the ECU reset. Most of the time, when I have a problem with a basic computer, doing a simple restart seems to do the trick.
